Matty Healy and Taylor Swift dated for approximately one month in the spring of 2023. The news regarding their split was first published by TMZ. Healy, who Swift fans believe is the man referenced in Taylor's song, "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" from her The Tortured Poets Department album, is believed to have seemingly taken a dig at his ex during his stint at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival.
In footage captured by Variety, Healy can be seen saying,
"I want to be sincere for a second with everybody. What this moment is making me realize is that I probably am the best. I'm probably the best songwriter of my generation."
He went on to add,
"The best, what do we say - a poet - ladies and gentlemen, is what I am. Generational wordsmith. I just want to remind you (for) the next couple of minutes. These lyrics, this poetry I bleed for you...take it away boys."
Healy also remarked, "I was only joking about being a poet," as per a report by the Daily Mail.
When Taylor initially released her album, fans alleged that six tracks from the record were referencing Healy's short-lived romance with the pop star. Swifties pointed out other clues from the performance, including Healy donning a pin featuring Peter Pan, tying it to Swift's track titled, Peter.
More about Matty Healy and Taylor Swift's relationship
Matty Healy and Taylor Swift first met in the fall of 2014, but didn't begin dating until May 2023. However, in November 2019, during a radio interview with Shazam Top 20, Matty Healy mentioned that he would date Taylor Swift. When the DJ prodded Matty about them, he said,
"Let's just see what happens. I mean bloody hell, what am I going to do? Go out with Taylor Swift? She's a sensation, I wouldn't say no."
However, Matty Healy squashed dating rumors in January 2015, while speaking on Australia's 2DayFM, where he revealed that the two met each other, exchanged numbers, and spoke occasionally.
In May 2023, Healy was spotted attending Swift's Eras Tour in Nashville, and the two were photographed holding hands at New York City's Casa Cipriani while out with mutual friend and collaborator, Jack Antonoff.
Not long after, the two were spotted leaving a recording studio together, which fueled speculation of them sharing more than just a professional connection. However, the relationship soon fizzled out, and a source told People at the time that,
"There is no drama, and who knows what could happen again. It was a good time and ran its course".
People confirmed that the two broke up in June 2023, also adding that their relationship was "always casual".
