Swedish actress May Britt died on December 11 at 91. The news was confirmed by her son, Mark Davis. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Mark said that his mother was at the Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, where she died due to natural causes.It was Italian producer Carlo Ponti who noticed the young talent at the age of 18. She worked in several Italian films. In 1957, she signed a deal with 20th Century. Besides her acting skills, she came to the limelight due to her marriage to singer and actor Sammy Davis Jr. As per a 2014 book by their daughter, Tracey, May and Davis Jr. first crossed paths during his performance at Mocambo nightclub. He also invited her to attend a party.In 1960, Davis Jr. announced that he and May Britt got engaged, and they tied the knot on November 13 that year. A reception party was also thrown, which was attended by around 200 guests. However, the marriage put a strain on her acting career. According to The Hollywood Reporter, interracial marriages were looked down upon during that time. In 1999, she told Vanity Fair:“I loved Sammy and I had the chance to marry the man I loved.”What followed was that May Britt did not receive a renewed contract from Fox. Not only that, but the couple also received death threats. They even got security for themselves. However, their marriage lasted for almost eight years, and the couple legally parted ways in 1968. But he didn’t know how to prioritize family because work was his passion. I am not saying that he didn’t love us, but work was his driving force.”However, speaking about her mother, May Britt, Tracey said:“My mom loved my dad like crazy, and my dad loved my mother. My mother was so lucky because her parents didn’t care.”Tracey said that she once asked her father why he and her mother parted ways. Davis Jr. told her that it was because of his busy work schedule. Even though Britt wanted him to be a “family man,” he couldn’t fulfill the commitment.Before Davis Jr., May Britt was married to Edwin Gregson. He was a student at Stanford University.
