Taylor Lautner, who previously dated Taylor Swift in 2009 for about three months, recently congratulated the Grammy-nominated singer on her engagement announcement to Travis Kelce. The "Twilight" actor took to Instagram and reposted the post shared by the official NFL account, congratulating the newly engaged couple. He wrote:

"I cannot believe this is really happening."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement through a joint post on Instagram. The couple were first linked back in 2023, when Kelce was first seen at her concert at Arrowhead Stadium. Later, he spoke on his "New Heights" podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce, about not being able to meet the singer during that visit, further fuelling rumors.

Since then, the couple has made several public appearances together, but had until now kept the details of their relationship private. Earlier this month, just two weeks before announcing her engagement to Kelce, Taylor Swift appeared on the "New Heights" podcast to talk about her upcoming album and details about her relationship with Travis Kelce.

More about Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift's relationship and eventual friendship, as the actor congratulates the singer on her engagement

Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift have long maintained a good relationship despite their breakup over a decade ago. According to People Magazine, Lautner met the "Fortnight" singer in 2009, while filming their 2010 movie, "Valentine's Day." The two made several public appearances together, with Swift even mentioning him during her monologue on Saturday Night Live. But by December of 2009, it was reported that the couple had broken up.

It has long been rumored that her song, "Back to December," was allegedly written as a tribute to her relationship with Taylor Lautner. The former couple have remained friendly, and were even after their split, seen going out together on several occasions. In an October 2010 interview with Glamour Magazine, Taylor Swift called Taylor Lautner one of her closest friends. She said:

"He's one of my best friends. He's wonderful, and we'll always be close. I'm so thankful for that."

Years later, in 2023, Taylor Lautner appeared on stage during Swift's Eras tour performance at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The "Abduction" actor had featured in Taylor Swift's "I Can See You" music video alongside Joey King and Presley Cash. She introduced him to the crowd by saying:

"He was a very positive force in my life when I was making the Speak Now album, and I want to say he did every single stunt that you saw in that music video. He and his wife have become some of my closest friends, and it’s very convenient because we all share the same first name.”

Taylor Lautner, on the other hand, paid a sweet tribute to the "Blank Space" singer by saying:

"I respect you so much. Not just for the singer you are, the songwriter, the performer — but truly for the human you are. You are gracious, humble, kind and I’m honored to know you.”

Taylor Lautner, who is now married to Taylor Dome Lautner, appeared on the "Call Me Daddy" podcast along with his wife, where he reflected on maintaining his friendship with Taylor Swift, and said:

"I have always had the deepest respect for who she is as a person, before anything else. But we then did fall out of touch and didn’t talk for a while. But I’ve always had the deepest respect for who she is as a person before anything else I would say one of the greater things to happen in my life over the last year is the rekindling of our friendship, because she just is a wonderful human. She's pretty great to have in your life."

He further added:

"I think when you respect somebody for who they are in their soul, it allows you to move on, forgive, and continue that love in a different way. And thankfully we had that. So after things ended between us—we were so young, I was 18 she was 20, 21—we stayed friendly, we would see each other now and then. We stayed friendly, we would see each other now and then.

Taylor Lautner also confirmed during the podcast what had been speculated for over a decade, revealing that it was, in fact, the "Cruel Summer" singer who had ended their relationship.
