Charlie Sheen's career as an actor, his controversies, and his personal struggles have kept him in the public eye for a long time. The actor, who is a father of five, recently revealed that his daughter Sami helped him to get sober after decades of addiction.

Charlie Sheen who is now 60 years old, disclosed that his daughter was crucial to his recuperation in his recently published biography, The Book of Sheen. He described a morning on 10 December 2017 when he was too drunk to drive Sami to an appointment after already drinking whiskey-laced coffee.

Charlie Sheen admitted to having three whiskey-laced coffees by mid-morning. When he couldn't take her to the appointment, he had to contact a friend of his to help him out.

He wrote:

“Sam was very quiet.”

Sheen wrote.

“I didn’t need to be clairvoyant to know exactly what she was thinking … ‘Why is Dad not driving again? When will Dad ever return? I miss him.’”

Charlie Sheen admitted:

“That morning hit me harder than any hangover ever could. There was only one thing that felt worse than betraying myself, and that was failing my children.”

He had a brief relapse the next day, but he quickly made a commitment to become sober. He credits Sami for helping him take charge of his life and says he has stayed sober ever since. He wrote:

“Sam wasn’t my final straw; she was my first harvest.”

A complicated relationship between the two

Sami, who is now 21 years old, has had a turbulent relationship with her father, even though she encouraged him to stay sober, when she made an appearance on her mother Denise Richards' reality show Denise Richards & her Wild Things in April 2025, she spoke about it:

“I would rather do literally anything else than go to lunch with my father.”

Sami previously posted a TikTok in which she made fun of Charlie Sheen's previous dismissive attitude toward drugs by lip-syncing to his notorious 2011 20/20 interview. She gave an explanation for why she hadn't spoken to him in over a year in her caption:

“When people wonder why I haven’t spoken to my dad in a year but this is my dad.”

Richards has also acknowledged that the connection between Sheen and Sami and her younger sister Lola, has been "complicated from day one."

A look into Charlie Sheen's five children

Charlie Sheen has five kids from three relationships, with the youngest being 16 years of age and the eldest being 40 years of age. Sheen was only 19 when he first became a father and is now a grandfather.

His eldest daughter is 40 years old, Estevez, Cassandra Jade. He had her with his girlfriend from high school, Paula Profit, in 1984. Becoming a father at a young age for Sheen changed him, as he was not ready, but he describes it as a turning point in his life.

Although Cassandra has stepped away from the spotlight, she and her father have remained close. Sheen walked her down the aisle with pride at her wedding to Casey Huffman in 2010. She gave birth to her daughter, Luna, three years later, making Sheen a grandfather.

Sami Sheen, who is 21 years old, is his second child, whom he shares with Denise Richards. She was born in 2004 and has appeared in multiple TV programs such as The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Two and a Half Men over the years.

In the year 2021, when she dropped out of high school, moved in with her father, it created strains with her mother. She then joined OnlyFans, which Sheen did not approve of, while Denise supported her. Charlie Sheen later provided his support. At the time, he stated to E! News:

"I do not condone it."

Sami lives on her own and is a content creator.

Lola, who is Sheen and Richard's second daughter, was born in 2005. She lives a more private life than her sibling. Lola was born three months after Richards had filed for divorce. Lola is closer to her mother and her sister and has had a "complicated" relationship with her father from day one.
