Malcolm McDowell, who has five children, recently opened up about his son Finn McDowell, revealing that he has not asked the renowned actor for any acting advice. According to People Magazine, the "A Clockwork Orange" actor, in his interview with the outlet, revealed how his son is now carving his own career path in Hollywood. He said,
"Once they ask, if they ask, I'm happy to do it. But I'm their dad. They don't look at me like I'm this actor who's got 300 credits and has been doing it for 60 years. I'm just dad, and dad doesn't know diddly squat, you know?"
Malcolm McDowell was previously married to publicist Margot Bennett from 1975 until their divorce in 1980. The couple had no children. He later married actress Mary Steenburgen, soon after his divorce that same year. Together, the couple welcomed two children, Lilly McDowell Walton and Charlie McDowell. The couple divorced in 1990 after ten years of marriage, after which he married Kelly Kuhr. The couple has since welcomed three sons over the course of their decades-long marriage.
More from Malcolm McDowell's new interview, as he confesses that his son Finn McDowell is not asking him for acting advice
In his recent interview with People Magazine, Malcolm McDowell revealed that his son Finn McDowell had decided to pursue a career in acting, although he had yet to ask him for advice. He admitted that although his son is nervous about his first auditions, he is still paving his own path. He said:
"He's just starting, and to see the longing, and also the nervousness of doing it, and getting out for one of the first times, it was really fantastic for me to see it, [but] he doesn't hear anything from me."
He further added:
"In fact, I said, 'Look, do you want me to help you with this audition?' 'No.' 'Okay.' And then he'll go, 'Dad, could you just watch the audition I did?' So I'll watch it. If he asks me, I'll watch it
Malcolm McDowell, in fact, admits that he is extremely proud of his children for wanting to pave their own career path, adding that it is fine with him simply stepping back and watching them do their own thing. He said:
"They've got to do that. They've got to find their own way and do their own thing. That's just the way it is. I totally understand it and step back."
Malcolm McDowell also wants his younger children to discover something to do that they would love doing as a lifelong career choice. He said:
"But I'm pretty proud of them, because my only advice to all of them is — just make sure you do something in life that you absolutely love. Most people are stuck in jobs that they hate or that they're just going through the motions, and that's not living a life for me. So if there's anything I can imbue in them, it is that they have to find something that they just love, and I don't care what it is."
Malcolm McDowell had also revealed in his interview that he is not the biggest fan of Lily Collins' hit Netflix series, "Emily in Paris," which is currently filming its fifth season. Lily Collins has been married to his son, writer Charlie McDowell, since 2021, and the couple recently welcomed a child together.
