On September 13, 2025, West End actor Jamie Bogyo and Marisa Abela, who is best known for playing Amy Winehouse in Back To Black, were married in a romantic wedding at Firle Place in Sussex. Their love journey which started ten years ago, was celebrated on 13 September 2025.

The love between Marisa Abela and Bogyo began in 2016 while they both attended the Royal Dramatic Art, or RADA. The actress claims that they soon became inseparable. Abela recounted in an interview:

“We were best friends throughout the course, and Jamie finally asked me out when we were graduating in 2019.”

Since then, the couple have been together and helping each other through tough times as they both rose in the entertainment industry.

Bogyo proposed to Marisa Abela at Primrose Hill, a spot that is located in London which is closely tied to the late Amy Winehouse, whom Abela played on screen. Jamie explained on how he prepared for the day with help from Amy's friend.

He revealed:

“Polly marched her up to the top of the hill and ran in the other direction when Marisa finally saw the picnic blanket and Champagne – then I came out of the trees and got on one knee.”

Marisa Abela spoke about the moment:

“This was where we met for the very first time at a meet and greet for the class of 2016. He hit on me immediately. It was amazing to be back where Jamie had literally walked into my life for the very first time.”

The surprise continued with a supper at Bocco di Lupo, where friends and family came to celebrate, as Marisa Abela subsequently referred to it as "the best day of my life." Jamie revealed:

“[Afterwards] I took her to dinner at Bocca di Lupo, one of our favourite restaurants in London. I made up some excuse as to why we needed to go downstairs, and all of her family and friends were waiting for us in the private dining room.”

Marisa added:

"It was the best day of my life. The next day we already had a holiday planned in Greece, so we sort of had an ‘engagement moon’ – we highly recommend it!”

Marisa Abela and Jamie Bogyo's celebration of love

A week before their grand wedding, the pair was legally married in a tiny ceremony at Islington Town Hall. After a special lunch at one of their favorite places, where only their parents attended.

The grander wedding ceremony took place at East Sussex's Firle Place, a mansion from the 15th century. Marisa Abela walked down the aisle to a theme from Cinema Paradiso, the first movie the couple had watched together before exchanging their vows. She recalled:

“I walked down the aisle to the theme of Cinema Paradiso, which was the film that Jamie and I watched at his apartment in Ladbroke Grove before we both told each other ‘I love you’.”

Both dads provided heartfelt readings, and Jamie's best man, Nate Janis, oversaw the wedding. The occasion was made personal as their friends from the Royal Dramatic Art, or RADA, performed John Martyn's May You Never.

Abela spoke about the wedding day:

“It was the greatest moment of our lives. We cried, of course. Completely overwhelmed. There was just so much love in that room. It was just the most personal, heartfelt ceremony.”

Marisa Abela donned a custom satin gown designed by Emilia Wickstead, which is inspired by Audrey Hepburn. It had a spectacular nine-foot veil and custom Jimmy Choo heels. Later in the evening, she changed into Wickstead "Micheline" gown, then a sporty jacket and shorts by the Ukrainian brand Bevza.

Abela told British Vogue:

“It was its own showstopping moment with its simplicity and cut, but was slightly more practical."

Abela added:

"I wanted something sexy that really felt like me, and I love tailoring. The sport shorts were perfect, and I could really let loose."

The bridesmaids' dresses and the mother of the bride's outfit were all designed by Wickstead. The outfit also included accessories like custom purses, diamond headpieces, and luxury sunglasses.

The dinner and dancing were then shifted to Soho House Brighton, where music was played, toasts and speeches were made. Abela told British Vogue:

“The speeches were absolutely incredible. They had us all in fits of laughter and fits of tears. With one final toast of 1942, and then we danced! And now, I’m overwhelmed, still on cloud nine, and unbelievably happy.”

Marisa Abela and Jamie Bogyo now start a new chapter in their life, which started a decade ago with their shared love for theatre, film, and classic romance.
