How is Miley Cyrus feeling about her engagement? Singer talks about intimacy and keeping her relationship with Maxx Morando small

Miley Cyrus is embracing privacy as she steps into a new chapter. Shortly after announcing her engagement to 27-year-old drummer Maxx Morando, the Flowers singer opened up about being able to keep things small and selective as she and her fiancé celebrate their bethrothal.

While promoting the film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, which features Cyrus' track Dream As One, the pop star had a conversation with People, where she revealed what "astounded" her about her relationship with Morando.

"The detail that I can share is that for us, our privacy and us kind of keeping it small has been something that I've been astounded that I've actually been able to have and being able to kind of have more choice. I think it's also being older, being more protective of what I'm open to sharing."

Miley Cyrus and Maxx Morando's engagement was confirmed on Tuesday, Dec. 2, after nearly four years of dating.

The couple was first spotted together at a Gucci event in November 2021, then in more events after that. In her previous interview in British Vogue, Miley Cyrus revealed:

"We got put on a blind date. Well, it was blind for me and not really for him. I thought, 'The worst that can happen is I leave.'"

When the songstress won her first-ever GRAMMY award in February 2024, the couple was caught and photographed smooching, which was a surprise as the drummer was known to be camera-shy.

Meanwhile, in November 2024, Miley Cyrus opened up about her six-year age gap with her longtime boyfriend, telling Harper's Bazaar:

"He looks at life really differently than I do. He grew up with a laptop. I had a desktop computer that I shared with my brothers and sisters. Honestly, he's raised our dog off Reddit. I'm like, 'Are you sure we're supposed to be doing this?' And he's like, 'On Reddit it says blah, blah, blah.'"

Last September, the pop star also spoke on her relationship with Morando, sharing with The Cut:

"I ended up with a person who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me. My man's hot as hell."

On Tuesday, during the red-carpet event for the new Avatar film in Los Angeles, Miley Cyrus flaunted her engagement ring. The Angels Like You hitmaker was also spotted wearing the ring during her 33rd birthday last Nov. 23, while she blew out the candle, surrounded by family and friends.

A representative from Jacquie Aiche stated that the brand created Cyrus's "bespoke" band. Experts have estimated the ring's value to be as high as $450,000.

Meanwhile, Avatar: Fire and Ash premieres on Dec. 19.
