Aerospace company Blue Origin conducted a successful 11-minute space mission with an all-female crew comprising Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez, Gayle King, Kerianne Flynn, and scientists Amanda Nguyen and Aisha Bowe on April 14, 2025. With its success, questions about how to be a part of the journey and costs have been flooding the internet.

At the onset, it must be noted that this trip to space can be availed by anyone. For that, they have to reserve a seat on Blue Origin’s official website, where they can fill out personal details first. This is followed by a response to “Tell us about yourself” within 500 characters. However, completing the form doesn’t ensure a guaranteed seat on the spacecraft.

To begin the process, one needs to pay a refundable deposit of $150,000. The applicant must be above 18 years old to fly. As per reports, the exact cost might vary, as it is not shared by the company. The first flight on the spacecraft took off in 2021, with each seat being auctioned at $28 million. Back then, the company shared a press release stating:

“Today, Blue Origin concluded the online auction for the very first seat on New Shepard with a winning bid of $28 million. Nearly 7,600 people registered to bid from 159 countries. The winning bidder will fly to space on New Shepard’s first human flight on July 20, and will join Blue Origin founder, Jeff Bezos, and his brother, Mark.”

When celebrities like William Shatner and Michael Strahan took a journey on the New Shepard, they reportedly did not have to pay anything as they were guests.

Katy Perry’s thoughts on her Blue Origin flight journey

Host Charissa Thompson, who covered the Blue Origin space mission for the day, asked Katy Perry about her experience following her return. The songstress discussed how deeply she felt connected to love during this experience. It made her realize how much love she had inside her, especially in a moment as big as a launch.

Thompson brought up an emotional moment where Katy Perry’s daughter, Daisy, watched her during the rocket launch, proudly calling out “Mommy” while watching everything happen. The singer also brought a real daisy flower with her, not just because it’s her daughter’s name.

She explained that daisies, though simple, are incredibly strong. They can grow in the toughest places — through cracks, cement, and walls. To her, they represented strength, resilience, and beauty. She saw flowers as a symbol of hope, a reflection of nature’s beauty, and a reminder to cherish and protect the world around us, even something as small and magical as a daisy.

During the Blue Origin mission, the songstress sang What a Wonderful World. When asked why it was important to her, she shared that she had sung that song before, without realizing that one day she would end up performing part of it in space.

She felt it was about shared energy, creating space for future women, and knowing they belong in those environments. Looking out at the world from space made her appreciate Earth even more, and Katy Perry felt that everything they were doing was ultimately for the planet’s benefit.
