One Battle After Another had its world premiere at LA's TCL Chinese Theatre and Warner Bros. Pictures released it theatrically on September 26, 2025. The action thriller flick is written and helmed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who adapted it from Thomas Pynchon's novel Vineland. Its official synopsis, as mentioned on Letterboxd is as follows:
When their evil nemesis resurfaces after 16 years, a band of ex-revolutionaries reunite to rescue the daughter of one of their own.
The film has met with a positive critical response. However, despite this, it has been unable to perform well at the box office and has become the biggest flop of 2025.

In an interview with The Playlist, Anderson revealed that he was working on the novel adaptation for several years.
“I started working on this story 20 years ago with the goal of writing an action car-chase movie, and I returned to it every two or three years. At the same time, this was in the early 2000s, I had the notion to adapt Thomas Pynchon’s “Vineland,” a book about the 1960s that he wrote in the ’80s. So I was trying to decide what the story meant another 20 years later. The third idea floating around in my mind at the time was a character, a female revolutionary. So really, for 20 years, I had been pulling on all these different threads, and in a way, none of them ever left me."
