Months of confusion followed the shooting murder of comedian Reggie Carroll in Southaven, Mississippi. Tranell Marquise Williams, the on-call security guard for Katt Williams, who shot him, has now made his first public statement and released a video that he claims explains what transpired

Comedian Reginald "Reggie" Carroll was found seriously injured after Southaven police responded to a shooting at a residence on Burton Lane on August 20, 2025. After being taken to Regional One Hospital in Memphis, Carroll, who was 53 years old, succumbed to his injuries. He was performing with Katt Williams at the time.

Tranell Marquise Williams, who was working as Katt Williams' on-call security, was arrested on charges of murder. The 38-year-old on-call security was required to remain at the Burton Lane property, which was leased to a business owned by Williams, and was on duty around the clock.

During a break in the tour, Reggie Carroll had reportedly moved into the house, where, later, he was shot.

Carroll's friends and family were confused and devastated upon hearing the news. Carroll's brother, Kempe Earle, told WHBQ that Carroll was “out there … with Katt Williams”:

“Man, it’s like your family member, your brother, your closest relative goes out of town, and something happens to them, and you don’t know what exactly.”

Meanwhile, Carroll's friend, Gerald Kelly, told:

“I’m still numb – I’m frustrated. I’m ready to go to war. We need answers.”

Tranell William makes his statement and explains what had transpired between him and Reggie Carroll

Tranell Williams has made his first statement since the incident, months after the shooting. In the video that was released, Tranell claims that Reggie Carroll was purportedly flashing a firearm as he was making verbal threats at him. Tranell also mentioned that "The Knockout King of Comedy" also seemed reckless with his firearm:

“So, if someone is showing signs that they are irresponsible with a firearm, if they're constantly making threats with a firearm, we have to intervene early or that will gradually grow with a snowball effect and grow into a bigger problem."

The security guard also claimed that he started recording all his interactions with Carroll as the comedian's behavior was getting riskier. He told Fox13:

“So from previous experiences, I've already been watching this guy build his confidence up. I've already reported him on several occasions that he's pointing a gun at me, and since he's not being punished, there was nothing to deter him from constantly doing that."

Williams claims that the deadly altercation started when Reggie Carroll reportedly blocked the front entrance and pointed the firearm at him, trapping him and making him feel endangered. So, his actions were all claimed to be in self-defense. He immediately grabbed a gun which was next to him and shot Carroll. According to the District Attorney, the weapon was identified as a shotgun.

He said:

“So, this time when he pointed the gun at me, he was blocking the front door. So, when I grabbed the weapon that was close by and used it for self-defense and called the police immediately, I was honestly in fear for my life."

According to William, he had reported Reggie Carroll for similar incidents, but no actions were taken against him. After the incident, Williams was arrested and sent to prison on murder charges.

He is now back at home after bail was made for him. He is under surveillance and is wearing an ankle monitor. The case is yet to be presented to a grand jury.

The Baltimore comedian, Reggie Carroll, had established a reputable career as a comedian performing in comedy clubs around the country. He was on Showtime at the Apollo, Knockout Kings of Comedy and was touring with Katt Williams before he met his tragic end.
