Luigi Mangione is now the subject of a documentary film. Alex Gibney, who won an Academy Award for his documentary Taxi to the Dark Side, is working on the docufilm on Mangione's life. It has recently been announced that the project has been sold to the streaming platform Hulu.
Mangoine has been charged with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was shot in New York in December 2024. He has been indicted on multiple charges, including murder. Hulu buys documentary on Luigi Mangione
According to a Deadline report, Academy Award winner Alex Gibney, who has been working on the project since last year, has sold the docufilm on Luigi Mangione to the streaming platform Hulu. The documentary, currently untitled, is in production stage, with shooting going on. In a statement, Gibney said:
"Following our collaboration on Looming Tower, I am delighted to join forces with Hulu to tell this powerful and important story. In the tradition of previous Jigsaw investigations, I think that people who think they know the story will be surprised and moved by the details hiding behind the headlines.”
Apart from directing the film, Gibey is also a co-producer along with John Jordan and Trevor Davidoski. The production banners are Jigsaw Productions and Anonymous Content. The executive producers of the Luigi Mangione docufilm include Gibney, David Levine, Razan Ghalayini, Richard Perello and Jessica Grimshaw.
The Luigi Mangione docufilm isn't the first time Gibney and Hulu will be collaborating. They had earlier collaborated on the scripted series The Looming Tower that focused on Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden. He had co-created the series and also directed the pilot episode. Gibney is currently working on a documentary on billionaire Elon Musk. Previously, he has chronicled Scientology, Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. His recent directorial venture was Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos.
The forthcoming documentary on Luigi Mangione will focus on the killing of Brian Thompson and its aftermath. It will also showcase the media and public's obsession with the case. Mangione has been accused of shooting Thompson to death on the night of December 4, 2024, in Manhattan, New York. He was eventually caught after a nationwide manhunt on December 9. Several people have extended support to him.
