Glen Powell is looking back at an awkward encounter he had with a celebrity who had just gotten "canceled" by the internet.

During a recent appearance on Jake Shane's Therapuss podcast on Wednesday, the Anyone But You actor recalled meeting the undisclosed “toxic” celebrity.

“I showed up to the party and there was somebody that had been on the ropes in terms of getting canceled,” he said. “It was one of those Hollywood parties where there’s like cameras and press and all that stuff.” He added, “This person had made some of my favorite movies and I was like, ‘Oh, this is great.’ He came up and he said, ‘Nice to meet you.’ I was like, ‘Oh, dude. Such a big fan.'”

Glen Powell, 36, said he spoke to the celebrity for a bit, but when a photographer asked him if they would pose for a photo together, he was hesitant.

“This person was recently canceled and it was not good. I was a fan of their work but not a fan of their choices,” he explained. “So, I was kind of just being nice. But then, when they wanted to take a picture with you, I realized very quickly — I was like, ‘Ooh, I don’t know if this is a good idea,'” Powell recalled.

During his podcast appearance, Glen Powell recalled noticing that the celebrity “clearly clocked” his apprehension to take a photo, but the former stood by his guns anyway:

“I realized, this guy, his face is toxic,” he recalled. “Going out into the world, people are having a visceral reaction to this person in terms of the bad choice they’ve made.”

He also likened the unidentified celebrity to Russ Holiday, the character he portrayed on Chad Powers. Holiday was a football icon who got canceled. He went undercover for another football team to try and revive his career.

"Russ Holliday is a guy that just made a mistake, right? He's not a bad guy. Some of these other people that get canceled...they should lie where they're shot," Powell noted. "But like with Russ, he made a mistake. He acted, you know, poorly about it and the world kind of didn't forgive him and he couldn't forgive himself."

The actor added,

"And what I found to be really interesting is that in today's day and age, there's a lot of, like, the cancel culture is just sort of a thing in, like, how the world doesn't really let you forget your mistakes."

The conversation comes on the heels of Glen Powell's conversation with GQ magazine about how the definitions of masculinity in Hollywood are shifting:

"When you look at actors of yesteryear, if they’re hitting at 36, they look like Gene Hackman in The Royal Tenenbaums,” he said. "Speaking of masculinity, I feel like that is one of those things, the health and wellness thing, that used to not feel like guys’ owning that space as much. And I do feel like the tide is gonna turn on that, where it’s a space that I’ve been really interested in for a while, but I feel like it’s also now becoming a little bit more in vogue,” Glen Powell added.
