Roseanne Barr has revealed in her new documentary "Roseanne in America" that she was nervous in engaging in a conversation with Johnny Carson, during her 1985 appearance on The Tonight Show, further adding the reason for nervousness. She said:
"I was the first woman comic in seven years."
Roseanne Barr, who rose to fame in the 1980s, started her career by performing at the Comedy Store in L.A. According to People Magazine, it was her performance there that caught the attention of producer Jim McCawley of The Tonight Show, who later invited her to perform at the legendary talk show.

Roseanne Barr, who is known for her controversial comedy takes, talked about her appearance on The Tonight Show, where she performed a stand up comedy bit. At the end of her performance, she was invited by Johnny Carson to come up to the couch, so that they could engage in a conversation like other guests. She said:
"After I was done, Johnny [Carson] waved me over to the couch, but I didn't want to go. Getting waved over to the couch was another huge thing, because I knew I was going to pass a bit of urine out of horrendous excitement. After having four kids, that's what happens. So I just left."
Rosaeanne Barr in her new documentary, "Roseanne in America," added that a few years later when she once again appeared on The Tonight Show, she was told beforehand that she was supposed to sit down for an interview with Johnny Carson after her standup performance. She said:
"Carson wants you to come over to the panel after you’re finished. He doesn’t want you to just leave. So I knew I had to."
Roseanne Barr also shared in her documentary that she recently reconnected with her daughter, whom she gave up for adoption. She said:
"When I gave my daughter up for adoption, I said to her, 'I’ll see you again when you're 18 because I’m not going to change my name, and I’m going to be famous. I’m going to have my own show named Roseanne,.'"
Talking about her appearance on the The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Roseanne added about the moment she sat down for the interview. She said:
"I go sit over there on the panel. All I can say is, 'Thank you so much. Mr. Carson, I'm not even funny.' But then something snapped and I go, 'I gotta tell a joke,' so I did"
