Outgoing Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has shared her thoughts about Meryl Streep’s performance as Miranda Priestly in the 2006 comedy film, The Devil Wears Prada, a sequel of which is in the works. On September 6, Wintour sat down for a chat with David Remnick of The New Yorker, and, at one point during the conversation, Remnick asked her how she felt about the depiction in the movie.

Wintour replied that she had attended the premiere of the movie, despite being clueless about what it was. She said, at the time, the fashion world was concerned about her since everyone thought the movie showed Priestly, the editor-in-chief of a fictional fashion magazine, her in a certain way. However, according to Rolling Stone, Wintour told Remnick:

“But, first of all, it was Meryl Streep, which, fantastic. And then I went to see the film and I found it highly enjoyable and very funny.”

She praised the actors in the movie, including Emily Blunt. This isn’t the first time Wintour spoke about the movie. In 2009, when she appeared on David Letterman’s show, he asked her about the movie, claiming that it was made about her and her organization. Anna Wintour said:

“Well, I seem to remember that actually the movie was fiction and we really like fiction at Vogue.”

As Letterman discussed her personality, Wintour said she is decisive and focused on clarity when it comes to working with her people. However, she noted that sometimes they did not seem to like her responses. Anna Wintour added:

“And as my publisher says in the movie, I'm not always warm and cuddly, but I appreciate wonderful work, good work, creative, talented people and what I liked about the movie is that it really showed all the hard work that goes into the making of the magazine.”

What does Anna Wintour think of Chloe Malle, her successor at Vogue?

During the The New Yorker conversation, David Remnick asked her opinion about Chloe Malle succeeding her as the editor of American Vogue. Anna Wintour said she felt great about the news as she loved Chloe and was hopeful that she would do an excellent job. She added:

“We've worked together for well over a decade. But at the same time, she really had to prove herself during the interview process. We saw a lot of amazing, amazing candidates. And Chloe consistently came back with the clearest vision and the most original ideas.”

In Anna Wintour’s opinion, Chloe Malle showed a clear idea of what Vogue could look like in the next two years. Remnick asked her to specifically say what she liked about Malle, and Wintour said that she understood the newsroom and culture well. She added that Malle was well aware of how fashion works, mentioning:

“That it's a result of many different forces, whether it's something that might be happening in music or film or politically, and wants to put it into that kind of a context. Plus, you know, she has a great sense of humor. I mean, her story that she thought of this summer, called Dogue.”

Dogue was a fun-filled special issue that was created by Chloe Malle and themed on dogs. Anna Wintour said she liked how beautifully the dogs were dressed, noting that the dogs belonging to different celebrities participated in the project.
