British musician Conor Maynard discussed the emotional toll and public scrutiny he faced during the paternity crisis involving Charlotte Chilton, star of The Traitors, in a much-anticipated televised interview. The musician discussed how the incident affected his mental health and how public opinion swiftly shifted against him before all the details were known during an appearance on This Morning. He said:

"I got to see how people can reach their conclusion and brand you as what you want immediately..."

In April 2024, 33-year-old Charlotte Chilton announced she was pregnant, sparking the issue. By June, she had publicly identified Conor Maynard, 32, as the presumed father of her pregnant child, Penelope, despite her earlier refusal to reveal the identity. According to reports, Harry Clarke, a mutual acquaintance who was seeing Conor's sister Anna, introduced the two at a Traitors wrap party in January 2024.

Conor Maynard knew she was pregnant, but had not contacted her, Charlotte said OK! Magazine. She also made it clear that she would be willing to raise the child by herself if needed, saying:

"There’s been days where I’ve been in tears because I’m sitting here thinking, “I’ve got a daughter that looks f*g identical to you. She’s got his eyes, his hair, his facial expressions.”

Even when Penelope was born in October 2024, Conor said nothing for several months, even though her allegations were well known.

Conor Maynard broke his silence in March 2025 by posting a message on social media. He disclosed that he was not the father, according to a paternity test performed in front of Charlotte's attorney. He wrote:

"Earlier this week, I took a paternity test regarding Charlotte Chilton's baby girl, Penelope, in the presence of her legal representative. Today I've received the test results which confirm that I am not Penelope's father."

He continued by reminding everyone that a child was at the center of the matter and asked everyone to be nice:

"I am glad that the speculation can finally be put to an end. All I would ask is that people act with kindness in response to this news - there is a child at the heart of all of this and that should not be forgotten. I wish Charlotte and her family all the best. Conor."

Conor Maynard's emotional TV interview:

Conor Maynard made an appearance on ITV's This Morning on May 30, 2025, alongside presenters Paddy McGuinness and Alison Hammond. He described how his mental health suffered greatly as a result of the charges and media hysteria. He said:

"Mental health is something I’ve struggled with for a big portion of my life and this year has definitely been up there in terms of my experience and battle with it."

The artist acknowledged how hard it was to remain silent, particularly in the face of scathing internet criticism. He stated:

"It was difficult to remain silent. I was instantly painted as a deadbeat dad, and all these comments across all of my social media were very much all about that. You want to defend yourself, you want to tell your side of the story."

Nevertheless, he felt it was crucial to keep quiet until he knew the truth.

"But I also felt that wasn't right until I knew the truth myself. And I didn't want to force that."

He added:

‘I got to see how people can reach their conclusion and brand you as what you want immediately, and I didn’t want that to happen all over again once I revealed the results of the paternity test.’

When asked how he felt about the negative DNA findings, Conor Maynard said he didn't feel immediately relieved. Rather, the weight of the whole experience overtook him.

"I actually felt like I was going to have a massive panic attack the second I found out."

He continued:

"That's the difficult truth about mental health. When something traumatic happens to you, the second that traumatic event stops you don't think, 'Oh I'm fine now.' It doesn't work out like that."

He went to talk about the findings:

"It was confusion, and feeling like, 'Why did that have to happen?'"

He finally said:

"When the result came in, it was unbelievable, but it wasn't instant relief. It took a lot of time to process and really understand."

Charlotte has remained skeptical of the test's accuracy even after Conor Maynard's testimony was delivered in front of legal counsel. To be sure, she asked him to undergo another test, a source told The Sun.

Charlotte has declined This Morning's offer to present her position and did not respond to Conor Maynard's public remarks. The only statement she has made in months is the photo she posted of the kid on social media.
