President Donald Trump, while speaking to reporters on April 5, says that he knows nothing about his AI Pope photo despite mentioning that the First Lady is a fan.

An AI image of Trump dressed as the Pope, wearing a white cassock and papal headdress with his forefinger raised, was posted on Truth Social on April 2. Moments later, the White House reshared the post on its official X account. The US President's post came less than a week after he attended Francis' Funeral.

While addressing the post, the President said,

"I have no idea where it came from. Maybe it was AI. But I know nothing about it. I just saw it last evening."

He then went on to add,

"The Catholics loved it. My wife thought it was cute. She said, 'Isn't that nice?"

Despite the President's thoughts on the post, the post was received in bad taste by Catholics and raised eyebrows on social media, drawing criticism.

66-year-old Filipino Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David took to Facebook to react to the post, saying, "Not funny, Sir." Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York, when asked by journalists for his opinion on April 4, said, "Well, it wasn't good."

Italy's former Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, took to X, saying,

"This is an image that offends, believers, insults institutions and shows that the leader of the right-wing world enjoys clowning around."

"I'd like to be Pope" - says US President Donald Trump

While speaking to reporters on April 29, US President Donald Trump, while departing for Michigan, was asked who he would like to see become Pope after Pope Francis' death.

The President, while responding to the question, nominated himself, saying,

"I'd like to be pope. That'd be my number one choice."

While Trump, who is not a Catholic himself, suggested, New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan be considered for the role of the next Pope,

"No, I don't know. I don't have a preference. I might say, we have a cardinal that happens to be out of a place called New York who is very good. So we'll see what happens."

Francis Dolan is one of the 10 U.S cardinals who will be voting to choose a successor for the late Francis. The conclave to choose the next Pope after Francis will begin on May 7, and cardinals all around the world will vote in the Vatican City.

The Sistine Chapel will be closed to visitors. While there is no limit to how long the Conclave could go on, Cardinals attending can't leave until the next Pope is chosen.
