Tyler Perry, 55, lauded Sinbad’s resilience and return to acting with the upcoming Netflix thriller, Straw. The latter’s recent performance marks his first appearance on the silver screen since his 2020 stroke.
At the screening of Straw on June 3, Perry, the film's director and producer, spoke with Entertainment Tonight. He acknowledged Sinbad’s determination to get back in front of the camera after facing a “really difficult” time, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The Don’t Look Up actor shared at the premiere event in New York:
"It's so important to me, as a man, that men want to support and take care of their families."

Praising the First Kid actor's performance, Tyler Perry expressed,
"I know it's been really difficult for him, so to give him this opportunity made me feel amazing. I'm really excited for him. And he delivered."
In October 2020, the comedian suffered a severe ischemic stroke. Reportedly, a blood clot traveling from his heart to his brain caused the health crisis. He underwent two thrombectomies to remove the clots and had a craniotomy to relieve brain swelling, according to Vanity Fair.
Sinbad was also placed in a medically induced coma and put on ventilation. He spent nine months in the hospital and underwent intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy to regain motor and cognitive function.
Nearly four years later, he made his first public appearance on a Zoom call with A Different World co-stars.
Tyler Perry worked with Sinbad for the first time
Sinbad’s return to film marks a significant moment in his career. For this project, he appears in Perry’s directorial film, Straw.

The upcoming film features a strong ensemble cast including Glynn Turman, Rockmond Dunbar, Sherri Shepherd, Taraji P. Henson, and Teyana Taylor.
His return to acting after nearly five years reflects his persistence. During his recovery, Sinbad also received encouragement from others in the entertainment industry.
In Tyler Perry's Straw, Sinbad plays the character of Benny, according to Netflix — a neighborhood local who observes Janiyah’s compassion and the challenges she faces.
Taraji P. Henson takes on the lead role of Janiyah in the Netflix release, which premieres on June 6.

Last month, Henson spoke about the project and her character in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
She shared:
"This one is a thriller, and I've never done a thriller with Tyler, so I was interested in that. There's a twist that happens that you don't see coming — a whodunnit, in a sense."
Without revealing too much, Henson further added,
"I can't give away too much, so I'm trying to talk around it, but there's some crazy twists and turns in there that'll take you by surprise, that absolutely take the character by surprise."
The actress expressed how she was amazed to see how the movie:
"showcases how easy it is for people in a vulnerable position to be disregarded or disenfranchised by a system that is supposed to protect them."
Sinbad’s return in Straw not only marks a personal triumph but also serves as a powerful reminder of perseverance in the face of adversity. With support from Tyler Perry and a stellar cast, his comeback is one to celebrate.
