Whispers of Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood's feud started online and then made multiple headlines. The whispers were fueled by a suspicious Instagram unfollow. However, in a surprising turn of events, Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins have finally addressed the drama.
In a joint sit-down interview with Variety, the co-stars of The White Lotus Season 3 opened up about their real-life connection – or one can say the public misconception of it. Walton Goggins was visibly emotional during the interview as he shared his adoration for Aimee Lou Wood.
“There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me,” he shared.
He continued his praise for Aimee, stating that she has the potential to become the next best bankable star of Hollywood.
“This is Goldie Hawn. This is Meg Ryan. She can do anything, and she will. You watch what the next 20 years of her experience will be. I’ll be on an island, I think Greece. But she’s special. There is no feud. She is love and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply.” he explained.

Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood respond to Instagram drama

Aimee Lou Wood didn’t hesitate when asked about the buzz around Walton Goggins unfollowing her on Instagram. It has been a source of fan speculation for months, and in the Variety interview, she finally broke the silence.
“I think it’s such a comment on where we’re at culturally. Why is everyone obsessing over Instagram? That is irrelevant. We don’t give a sh**e about Instagram,” she said.
Wood encouraged viewers to focus on what really mattered.
“Why not have conversations about the story and Rick and Chelsea and enjoy it?” she added.
While she initially felt the urge to clarify things, experience taught her that engaging with online rumors often backfires:
“Eventually I just started to sit back and watch these people making something out of absolutely nothing.”
Her pause allowed Walton Goggins to interject. Moving closer to the microphone, he added,
“If I may add, just to put this to bed? The following or unfollowing. I’m a grown-ass man.”
The actor’s comment clarified the situation. The unfollow, it turns out, wasn’t a statement but just a moment from someone who prefers quiet exits over digital farewells. When Walton Goggins wrapped Justified, he didn’t leave with a clean emotional slate.
“When I left ‘Justified,’ I went up to Tim [Olyphant], and I hugged him and I said, ‘I love you, and I hope I see you in rooms for the rest of my life, I didn’t talk to him for almost two years. I’ve done that with every single thing that I’ve done.” he recalled.
That detachment was part of Walton Goggins' coping mechanism, one he repeated across projects, including The White Lotus. But this time, the distance felt heavier. The show was filmed in Bangkok, and stepping onto that set stirred something more profound. It took him back nearly two decades, to the period after his wife’s tragic suicide in 2004. For three years, Walton Goggins had traveled in search of healing, and Thailand was a part of that journey.
So when filming placed him in the very location he had once visited in grief, the emotional toll hit differently.
“My catharsis in this experience was different than other people’s, because of my history in this place, I knew what we had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea.” he shared.
He gave himself space to process the farewell:
“After filming ended, I needed to just back away from everyone. I haven’t spoken to anyone. I couldn’t handle it. Judge me or don’t. I don’t give a f**k what you think. This is my process. Rick means everything to me, and Chelsea means everything to me. And so that’s what I needed to do for me to process all of this.”
During the sit-down with Aimee Lou Wood, his emotional openness remained front and center. At one point, Goggins stood and laughed, “You know what? I’ll follow you right now!” He walked over, grabbed his phone, and followed her on Instagram. A moment of connection amid the introspection.
“It’s all so ridiculous,” he said, shaking his head.
“It’s just a part of me just saying goodbye to this character so that now Aimee and I will be friends for fu**ing ever.”
They embraced, and Wood responded gently, “I completely understand.”
“I love you,” he told her.
