Actress Roseanne Barr shared her thoughts following the news of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s murder. On December 14, she took to her X and wrote:

ā€œI’m absolutely shocked and horrified to hear about Rob Reiner and his wife Michele. This is a travesty. Praying for swift justice. Sympathies to their family and children. I’m at a loss for words.ā€

According to CBS News, the bodies of Reiner and his wife, Michele, were recovered from their home in West Los Angeles. Detectives from the LAPD robbery and homicide division have been assigned to the case. It is reported that the couple was murdered by their own son, although the claim cannot be confirmed yet.

LA Mayor Karen Bass penned down a statement. As per her official X page, she wrote:

ā€œThis is a devastating loss for our city and our country. Rob Reiner’s contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice. An acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer, and engaged political activist, he always used his gifts in service of others.ā€

Expressing her pride in Rob Reiner, Bass further wrote:

ā€œPersonally, I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have tremendous respect for him. Among his numerous contributions, Rob helped create First 5 California, a landmark initiative funded by a tobacco tax to support early childhood development programs. He and Michele fought for early childhood development and marriage equality, working to overturn Proposition 8. They were true champions for LGBTQ+ rights.ā€

Looking back at Rob Reiner's recent interview

In October 2025, Rob Reiner had a chat on 60 Minutes. One of the key topics was his 1984 film, This is Spinal Tap. When the host asked if he was a method actor, Reiner said his method of acting is all about having a good lunch and lying down during a break. Speaking about directing the film, he said:

ā€œWell, people would say, "I can't believe your first movie would be improvised." There to be no script and that's scary and to me it was the opposite. I wasn't scared.ā€

He also mentioned:

ā€œApparently Van Halen had a rider in their contract. No brown M&M's. So, some roadie had to sit there picking out the brown M&M's. It's crazy. So, we looked at that and we said there's a scene.ā€

Reiner initially faced difficulty in securing funding for the movie. He made a demo and presented it to an executive who did not agree to it. He then had a meeting with officials from Embassy Pictures. Speaking about pitching the film to them, Rob Reiner said:

ā€œAnd I go through this insane pitch about why they should make the movie and it's going to be successful. It's about rock and roll. The kids will like it. They'll watch it. There'll be repeat business. I'm going crazy.ā€

Reiner remembered that it was Norman Lear who told everyone to greenlight the idea. Ultimately, they gave it a shot.
