Travis Kelce did not have many reservations about making a comeback to play another NFL season. Alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes and other Chiefs players, the future Hall of Fame tight end spoke with the media after the team’s practice on June 18, as Kansas City braces for another gruelling season of intense competition. According to a report by People, he stated

"It wasn't a very tough [decision] for me. I know I'm getting older, but at the same time I still feel like I got a lot that I can prove in this league. It really wasn't that hard of a decision for me."

Travis Kelce and the Chiefs fell short of achieving the incredibly rare 3-peat in February to the Philadelphia Eagles at the Super Bowl.

He also expressed his love for the game and his admiration for the people he works with, which made his decision a little easier.

"I'm only interested in Super Bowl rings. I love football. I don't think I really thought about it that much. My friends and family and the team and the guys and women in this building, I love coming into work every single day."

Travis Kelce also made it clear that he felt that he still had “a lot to prove” before he was ready to hang up his cleats for good.

"I really didn't feel like it was my last game. Just felt like I've got a lot more to prove.”

Although the star athlete was aware that he would have to decide his playing status eventually, he did not want the emotions of the Super Bowl loss to cloud his judgment, so he allowed himself some time to deliberate.

"You want to let the emotions die down [after the end of the season]. That was the biggest thing — you don't want to make decisions off initial emotions. But for the most part, once they died down, I still felt like I had that fire in my chest to be able to keep coming in and building and be better and chase another Super Bowl."

He was also up front about his culpability in regards to his team falling short last season, and is committed to changing the narrative.

“Last year I think I failed especially in that last game, in being a leader and being the one that can step up and make plays. So just setting the bar even higher for myself this year than I have in the past. Last year wasn't a success for me, and I'm motivated to make sure we get that other ring this year."

Before returning to the Chiefs' facilities for training camp, Travis Kelce seemed to be having a ball outside of the painted lines. He continued filming episodes of his New Heights podcast alongside his brother, former NFL veteran and Super Bowl champion Jason Kelce, and made several appearances with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, in recent weeks. This included a date night at the Stanley Cup Finals.
