After regaining 20 pounds, Dolores Catania, star of Real Housewives of New Jersey since 2016, has disclosed that she is experiencing severe mental and physical health issues. She credits this setback to her weight loss medicine, Mounjaro, abruptly losing its effectiveness. The 54-year-old reality TV veteran recently shared an honest glimpse at her issues with body image, medicine, and heart health.

As reported by People in an article published on June 9, Catania states:

"I’m really having a bad time with this"

In 2023, Catania made her usage of the diabetic drugs Ozempic and Mounjaro public for the first time, stating that she needed therapy for pre-diabetes, insulin resistance, and thyroid problems. Because of their capacity to suppress appetite and control blood sugar and fat metabolism, the medications, which belong to the GLP-1 receptor agonist family, have gained popularity as off-label weight reduction therapies.

In 2023, she told The US Sun:

“I’m down 20 pounds. My goal weight is to be in the low 130s.”

She had dropped a substantial amount of weight by then, from 163 pounds to 137 pounds, and claimed to feel healthier and more self-assured.

She had jumped to Ozempic not for appearance reasons, but because she was going through menopause and thyroid.

“I was medically prescribed for both because I am insulin resistant/pre-diabetic and have a thyroid issue.”

The story took a different turn when Dolores Catania stopped taking Mounjaro to work, causing her to put on the twenty pounds she had dropped earlier. Catania revealed all this on Jeff Lewis Live on SiriusXM on June 6.

She said:

“I’m having a really hard time right now. My Mounjaro stopped working, I gained 20 lbs."

She added:

"I’ve been looking for therapy for all my friends. I’m really having a bad time with this.”

Due to an unforeseen medical treatment called a cardiac ablation, which addresses irregular heart rhythms, Dolores Catania stated that she had been off the medicine for around a month. She believes the drug may have lost some of its potency as a result of the break.

Catania revealed that she had stopped using Mounjaro and is currently taking ten medications daily as she recovers:

“It’s like a formality now, I have to take it for the next 90 days and then I should be done. So I’m hoping maybe that’s why I gained weight.”

In addition to the physical effects, Dolores Catania acknowledged that her mental health has suffered as a result of the weight increase.

Catania said in response to Jeff Lewis' question about whether she had thought about using additional weight loss medications, that is, returning to Ozempic. She expressed:

"I did it all"

She acknowledged that before moving to Mounjaro in early 2023, she had been on Ozempic for two years.

Dolores Catania also mentioned that her boyfriend Paulie Connelly has also been trying to lose weight too. She disclosed that Connell no longer needs a specific blood pressure medication after using Ozempic to lose 60 pounds.
