Amy Poehler has hosted numerous celebrities on her podcast Good Hang. The show includes a fair share of actors, comedians, and long-time friends. Nevertheless, there is a famous name that does not appear on the guest list: Martha Stewart

In a recent Good Hang episode, Poehler explained why Stewart is not expected to be a guest on the podcast. Speaking to another Saturday Night Live alum, Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler claimed she is fearful of inviting Stewart.

Amy Poehler ensured it was evident that she felt this out of respect and not dislike. She made jokes about the situation and, at the same time, admired Stewart. Nevertheless, she acknowledged that fear is one of the factors.

Amy Poehler addressed the topic while chatting with Ana Gasteyer on the December 23 episode of Good Hang. The two discussed their history on Saturday Night Live and the many times they impersonated Martha Stewart. Poehler openly admitted her hesitation.

She said, “Martha, I’m not going to invite you on the show because I’m too scared but please listen and know that you’re something else.”

The comment drew laughter, but Amy Poehler’s tone suggested honesty. She explained that years of parody can make a real interview feel uncomfortable.

Amy Poehler and Gasteyer both agreed that Stewart’s public image feels precise and controlled. Poehler said Stewart is someone who notices details. This awareness makes Poehler unsure about facing her in a long conversation. Even with good intentions, Poehler fears crossing a line.

Gasteyer added that Stewart’s presence is unique. She noted that Stewart always seems aware of how she looks on camera. Poehler agreed, saying this made the impersonations tricky but memorable.

The discussion between Amy Poehler and Gasteyer focused heavily on how Stewart has been portrayed on Saturday Night Live. Poehler asked Gasteyer about the key details of the impersonation.

She asked, “When we’re doing Martha, what are we doing with her lips? And how do we talk?”

Gasteyer responded that Stewart is careful with her expressions.

Poehler joked about this detail by saying, “It’s a barely moving mouth … we’re going to make a Christmas meal and barely nothing’s going to move.”

The exchange highlighted how specific the impressions were.

Despite the jokes, Stewart has said she enjoys being impersonated. During a January appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Stewart spoke about the many SNL cast members who played her. Fallon pointed out that she had been impersonated at least nine times.

Stewart responded positively.

She said, “I love it. Imitation is the highest form of flattery.” She also added, “You might as well be imitated.”

Her reaction suggests she does not hold grudges over the sketches.

Stewart even joked about wanting to host SNL herself. She explained that timing issues once stopped her from doing it.

She told Fallon, “I wanted to and they asked me as I was coming out of Alderson.”

She added that restrictions made it impossible at the time.
