Shotgun Wedding actor Josh Duhamel, who recently starred in the Netflix original western romantic drama series Ransom Canyon alongside Minka Kelly, opened up about his initial days before trying his luck in Hollywood in the latest episode of the Not Skinny but Not Fat podcast with Amanda Hirsch. He also spoke about how he competed with No Strings Attached star Ashton Kutcher in a modeling contest.
Duhamel competed against Kutcher in a 1997 modeling contest. During his conversation with Hirsch, Josh recounted how the contest was finally between him, a kid from Oregon, and Kutcher, from Iowa. Josh recalled saying,
"First runner-up between me and Ashton. They say his name, and I swear to God, I just won Miss America. I was so excited. I felt like they lifted me up and put [on] a sash and a tiara. My god. They didn't do this, but that's what it felt like."
After winning the contest, things did not turn out the way Josh thought they would. He claimed that his win was meaningless because "nothing happened." However, on the contrary, things for Kutcher were different; even after losing the contest, he somehow managed to land a bunch of work for himself, including a part in the popular 90s sitcom That '70s Show. Duhamel confessed:
"I didn't even get an agency from it. Ashton Kutcher went on, got [a] Calvin Klein campaign, got That ‘70s Show, got all these things. I was so pissed. Because I felt like, ‘But I won! I was the male model of the year!’"
Josh Duhamel revealed how he and Ashton Kutcher laughed about their early days

Josh Duhamel, who is currently married to Audra Mari, with whom he shares a son, Shepherd, discussed with Amanda Hirsch on Not Skinny but Not Fat how he and Kutcher laughed about their initial days when they were starting their careers. The Safe Haven actor stated that it was good in a way that he did not get immediate success from winning the modeling contest. Duhamel said,
"It was actually a good thing probably because I had to go out and, you know, hit the streets, and really sort of bust my a** to make anything happen."
Duhamel began his acting career on television in the soap opera All My Children. Eventually, he landed significant roles in the Transformers film series, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, Las Vegas, and so on.
Ashton Kutcher shares his side of the story
On the other hand, What Happens in Vegas actor Ashton Kutcher shared his side of the story on The Howard Stern Show and revealed how annoyed and irritated he was after losing that modeling contest to Josh Duhamel. Kutcher said,
"Handsome son of a b*tch, that f*cker. I was so f*cking upset at this guy for so long. And then finally I ran into him, and I was like, ‘All right, you’re good looking.'"
Kutcher then jokingly added:
"I had to give it up, right? Coming in second was the story of my life."
