Miley Cyrus revealed that she got injured after filming Something Beautiful on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Speaking about its severity, she said:
"I was put in the ICU for a moment.”
Cyrus, a 32-year-old, disclosed that she developed a "brutal" leg infection during the production of her new visual album, Something Beautiful, which caused her kneecap region to disintegrate. Although the event happened in October 2024, she ended up in the hospital because of the severity of her symptoms around Thanksgiving.
During her appearance on the late-night show, Miley Cyrus stated:
“I filmed this video in October, and by November at Thanksgiving, I was put in the ICU for a moment — just for a moment."
She added:
"My leg began to disintegrate around the kneecap area.”
Cyrus said that the doctor looked at her leg and was appalled. She said:
“The doctor goes, ‘Do you have any idea why you would have such a brutal infection on your kneecap?’ And I just saw myself [rolling around on the Walk of Fame] and I had to tell him.”
“To have a surgeon look at you and say, ‘Yuck’ Cyrus said… Like, they open up cadavers, they see inside the gut of humans, and they’re looking at me telling me I’m disgusting.”
Due to financial limitations, nighttime filming was chosen. Miley Cyrus acknowledged that she had spent a large amount of the production budget on the clothes instead of the logistics. In order to avoid paying rental costs, Cyrus finally decided to film guerrilla style in the middle of the night.
“With this movie, I had a big dream and a small budget. Well, I had a pretty good budget but I spent it all on my clothes. So then, when it came time to go to the Walk of Fame, they were like, ‘So what are you gonna do? Are you gonna rent this thing or what? ‘Cos that’s really out of your price range.’ I’m like, ‘No, we’ll just go in the middle of the night.’”
Then, Cyrus made a joke at host Jimmy Kimmel. She joked:
“Have you been to the Walk of Fame in the middle of the night? I thought it was my last day.”
Miley Cyrus' Ovarian Cyst Rupture During NYE Special
Talking about her recent health scare, Miley Cyrus revealed another health scare she recently experienced. She disclosed on The Zane Lowe Show, on May 21, when she co-hosted a 2023 New Year's Eve special with Dolly Parton, that she experienced a medical emergency only days prior to her appearance on Kimmel. She revealed:
“I had a pretty traumatic experience on a show that I was doing with Lorne [Michaels] when I was doing my New Year’s show. I had a medical emergency. I had an ovarian cyst rupture.”
Miley Cyrus called the event "really hard" for her, describing the agony as "extremely excruciating," but she decided to go on performing in spite of the medical emergency.
“It was pretty traumatic because it was extremely excruciating and I did the show anyway. But it was really, really hard on me.”
Cyrus' Something Beautiful
A companion musical film will have its premiere the month after Something Beautiful, which is scheduled for release on May 30. Miley Cyrus underlined that the film's format is unusual. Talking about it to Kimmel, she said:
"The music is the story. Every song is storytelling. Even though this has become very kind of psychedelic and over the top [like] everything that I do, but at the end of it, really the heart of it is just the music. Really, the storytelling. So there was no need for characterization because I'm the character. And I never want to become something or someone that I'm not."
She continued:
"That it's open to everyone's individual interpretation of what it means to them. Something that could be about my mother can be about your friend, could be about your boyfriend. And that's what the story is about. I wanted it to be blank enough that people can infuse what they want to see in this visual album while I'm fully satisfied. And I'm really proud of it."
