Last year, Jennifer Lopez decided to part ways with American actor and filmmaker, Ben Affleck. According to a New York Post report, the singer, known by her nickname J.Lo, had cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their split. In a recent interview with El País, Jennifer Lopez shared how she opened up with her kids regarding her divorce with Ben Affleck.

Ben Affleck, famous for playing the superhero Batman in the DC Extended Universe, had tied the knot with Jennifer Lopez in the summer of 2022. Lopez, who is known to open a path for Latino Americans in Hollywood, had once shared that Affleck was the love of her life.

“I had a really tough year,” she told El País.

Even though the separation was tough on her, Lopez had a good support system. Her twin children Max and Emme have been there for their mother. They were born from her previous relationship with Marc Anthony.

“I said, ‘I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you’re going to see that I’ll come out the other side stronger and better.’ I promised them that and I did it. And they feel it now. That gives me a great sense of peace in my life,” she shared.
“I’m happier that I’m a step further along than I was a year ago, two years ago, three years ago… I’m proud of myself for that and I’m proud that I was able to navigate my children through difficult times, that they’re stronger and better because of it. So, it’s a great time to go out there and dance and sing and have a good time with everybody,” added J.Lo

The Love Don’t Cost a Thing singer, also known for starring in multiple romantic comedy movies, shared in the EL Pais interview how she endured her tough year. Unexpected things happened to her, and the way she could make some sense of it was by reading a lot of books, self-introspection and meditation. She also shared that her faith and relationship with God had become stronger, leading her to pray a lot. Jennifer Lopez shared that during all this, her goal was to "solidify the family unit," and her relationship with the twins. Later she explained, what helped her, and the thing she loved most, was:

"Listening to other people, who have been through similar or different experiences."

J.Lo explained:

“I read a lot of books on childhood, marriage, relationships, different styles of love, the brain, science... And over the years, I’ve done individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy. I’ve had everything, I’m always kind of searching.”

She added:

“I think it’s all about learning about yourself. It’s all about knowing yourself. You have to be ready for that. And you have to want it. And, even when you want it, it’s hard to change certain things. But you can.”

Being in the spotlight has always come with its pros and cons. In a report shared by The Source, Jennifer Lopez was hailed as "one of the most influential entertainers of our time." Even with millions of fans worldwide, the singer is aware of the hate and rumors spread about her.

“I’m very aware of all the things that people say and think about me. And that’s okay, because I really do know who I am and I know my heart and my intentions are good and pure. That’s why it’s very easy for me to get up every day and smile and be genuinely happy,” shared Jennifer Lopez.

She later acknowledged that where she is currently in life, is "a beautiful place" for her.
