Comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish helped people buy groceries at Super King Market in Altadena on August 8. This step was to help those who faced a difficult time following the California Wildfires. The total amount was around $100K with every person being allotted $150.

In a self-recorded video on Instagram, Tiffany Haddish got together with one of her friends and asked everyone to hit the supermarket before 4 PM to buy essential groceries, except liquor and tobacco.

The comedian said she wanted to get all the food off the shelves so that people could buy healthier food. According to a report by CBS Mornings from August 11, she said:

“I came in this store just wanted to bring some joy, heal some bellies, you know what I'm saying? Fill up some refrigerators. And I'm so excited and so happy and so honored that God gave me the ability to bring together people to feed them to make life easier for them.”

Tiffany Haddish went on:

“I remember being homeless. I remember not having food. I know how hard it is when I come to buy groceries and it's like I only buy like 10 items and it's almost a hundred bucks. I'm just thinking to myself, how are people surviving?”

One shopper shared that after the fires, many felt overlooked and deprived of the help they desperately needed, so Haddish’s support carried great significance. Another remarked that it was a reminder that there is still kindness and compassion in the world, and that more acts of love like this are needed.

Tiffany Haddish joked about getting 15 hugs every day while she helped people buy groceries at the supermarket

Per CBS Mornings, if any person purchased more than the allotted $150, Tiffany Haddish herself paid the surplus amount with her credit card. People could buy up to five meat items, but not a huge number of items for resale purposes.

During a conversation with host Gayle King, the comedian said she wanted to spread kindness. This endeavor by Haddish was supported by D.L. Hughley, actor Leonardo DiCaprio, and others. She mentioned that she reached out to her rich friends to help her with the cause. Tiffany Haddish said on that day:

“My little soul is all filled up. My heart is all full.”

She also added:

“I got more than 15 hugs. 15 hugs a day, keep the psychiatrist away. So, I won't be dealing with them for a month. Save some money on that. I'm lying. I'm going be talking to my psychiatrist as soon as I leave from here cause I can't wait to brag. Joy is growing in the grocery store.”

According to KTLA, Tiffany Haddish said she understood how hard and stressful it was to feed a family, especially with how expensive food had become. She added that she also needed to eat and liked buying her food, so she decided to pay for everyone standing in line behind her.
