The internet had a field day after Ed Sheeran revealed that he found out about his close friend Taylor Swift's engagement to NFL player Travis Kelce through Instagram. After the British singer revealed through a comment that he found out about the engagement using his “allotted iPad time,” the internet found this adorable and funny at the same time. A user commented:

"I saw this coming."

During her recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Taylor Swift played a game called That's So True, in which rumors were guessed and she had to reply if it was true or not. Fallon guessed that Ed Sheeran found out about her engagement “on Instagram.” Swift laughed and admitted:

“That’s so true.”

She went on to explain:

"He doesn't have a phone. You have to email him. If you want to set up a FaceTime, he has to find an iPad. They have to give it to him like he's a child that you give the iPad to."

She added that she later realised that she forgot to inform Sheeran about the engagement:

"This is one of my absolute favorite people on the planet. When the news came out, I was like, 'We forgot to call Ed! Oh no!' He's like family. I love him. But he doesn't have a phone."

She explained her method of how she was informing everyone about the good news:

"When I'm going through, being like, 'Hey, who should we call? Who should we FaceTime? I'm going through my texts and being like, 'Who have I texted in the last month of my life?' And he just wasn't there."

Ed Sheeran, who is 34, responded when a video of Swift's comments went viral on TikTok, shortly after the interview aired. He made the following comment, in true Ed Sheeran wit:

“Hello from my allotted iPad time, this is factual.”

His comment quickly went viral, with fans reacting to it.

Following Ed Sheeran's comment, the internet went crazy and adored the relationship they have. A user commented:

"I saw this coming since last night when she said it. Ed & Taylor are like Bro & Sis with very similar dry humor."

Following which, many more joined in, and another user added:

"I think I know why she's one of his favorite people in the world now."

A third user joked about making bracelets:

"I gotta make a "We forgot to call Ed" Bracelet."

Ed's comment is loved by all the Swifties and seems like it'll be seen in texts and at concerts as well:

"I will be quoting this nonstop now."

Another user poked fun at Sheeran’s no-phone lifestyle, with the comment reading:

"Haha. Ed Sheeran only talks thru iPad."

While another teased:

"He typed this with 2 fingers and full concentration."

Meanwhile, a user reflected on the warmth of their friendship, writing:

"Yeah… the way she talks about makes it obvious why there’s so much mutual respect and affection."

Inside Ed Sheeran's phone-free life

As reported by INC., Ed Sheeran decided to give up his phone back in 2015. The Shape of You singer said that being famous made internet communication "overwhelming":

“I got really, really overwhelmed and sad with a phone. I just spent my whole time just in a very low place. I got rid of it, and it was like a veil just lifted.”

He also mentioned how psychologically taxing it was to be expected to react all the time:

"I could be having a conversation with you over dinner, right? And we’re really getting into it and talking about some serious sh-t. And my phone can vibrate in my pocket. And even I’m not looking at my phone. I go, who is that? I wonder who that was? What was that vibration? Oh, there’s another one. Now I’ve got two texts, maybe that was important. "

Ed continued:

"Should I check my phone? No, I’m having a conversation with Ben, I shouldn’t check my phone. And I’m kind of listening to you, but I’m also thinking that."

Upon being asked how he manages to keep in contact with everyone, Ed Sheeran said:

“I have an email…and like, every few days, I’ll sit down and open up my laptop and I’ll answer 10 emails at a time. I’ll send them off and close my laptop and then that’ll be it. And then I’ll go back to living life and I don’t feel overwhelmed.”

Sheeran concluded that it was a decision that he does not regret:

“The best thing about it, aside from mental health and feeling better about everything, is the moments that I have with the people I love in person, uninterrupted.”

Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift became friends back in 2012 after he opened for her on her Red Tour and worked with her on the song "Everything Has Changed." They have been close ever since, participating in each other's initiatives and openly promoting one another's talents.

Soon, we might even see the duo performing together at Taylor and Kelce's wedding.
