Hilaria Baldwin recently opened up about the difficult period she and her husband, Alec Baldwin, went through as a family after the devastating incident during the filming of his movie, "Rust," which resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

In her new memoir, "Manual Not Included," Hilaria writes about the aftermath of the incident, revealing that it caused Alec Baldwin to fall ill and be rushed to the hospital. In the excerpt of her memoir obtained by People Magazine, she writes:

“I was sure he was dead.”

Back on October 21, 2021, during the filming for Alec Baldwin's then-upcoming movie, "Rust," live ammunition was loaded into the prop weapon by armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, a fact that was reportedly unknown to Baldwin.

Later, Baldwin who was holding the gun ended up accidentally shooting Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza. Hutchins was taken to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

In her memoir, "Manual Not Included," Hilaria Baldwin writes about how the ongoing legal troubles, following Halyna Hutchins' death, suddenly and disastrously affected Alec Baldwin. She writes:

"His hands became cold, and he could barely walk. I brought him to the emergency room. They did many tests. It was more stress, the doctors said, Hilaria said, noting that he had stopped eating and drinking. "It was like he was turning off."

She further adds that after being discharged from the hospital, Alec Baldwin once again started feeling unwell just a few days later. He initially refused to go to the hospital, but had to go back after his health worsened, and he "slumped back, eyes rolling, mouth open."

She recalled:

"I rushed back and found him shaking, unable to stand up. He still refused to see the doctor, doing his best Alec-curmudgeon again to make me leave him alone. Mikey, our driver, ran inside the hospital to get help. I was sure Alec was dead. I thought I was going to vomit from feeling so helpless and heartbroken. How could this be happening?" Hilaria recalled thinking.

Hayla Hutchins' death would lead to two years of lawsuits and several court proceedings before the two counts of involuntary manslaughter charges against Alec Baldwin were eventually dropped. Gutierrez-Reed, on the other hand, was charged with involuntarily manslaughter and sentanced to eighteen months in prison.

Earlier this year, in an interview with People Magazine, the "Edge" actor had talked about the deeply troubling period in his life, and how trying to remain strong for his children placed immense pressure on him. He said:

“I had to stuff [feelings] down because I had seven kids. I couldn’t really go in the other room and cry or whatever. And now the emotion is really kind of washing up on me,” he said. “I don't think other people would've survived this."

In a March episode of their reality TV show, "The Baldwins," Hilaria Baldwin talked about the survivor's guilt that her husband faces everyday. She said:

"You're involved in this thing that nobody could even possibly imagine. And so he goes back to that day, he wishes it were him. He would change places [with Hutchins] in a second. This has affected his health and his mental health tremendously the past few years. All of a sudden, he has started having heart problems. He's been hospitalized multiple times.”

Hilaria Baldwin, who shares seven children with actor Alec Baldwin, also revealed in an episode of "The Baldwins" that she had taken every precaution to ensure her children would be looked after as she attended Alec Baldwin's trial, in case something went wrong.
