Actress and activist, Rose McGowan, has raised doubts about convicted s*x offender Harvey Weinsteinβs imprisonment. On January 6, McGowan appeared on the We Need To Talk podcast, in which she discussed her time in Hollywood and experiences with Harvey Weinstein. Almost towards the end of the conversation, host Paul mentioned that Weinstein was serving a 16-year prison sentence. He asked Rose McGowan if she believed justice was served, to which she replied:
βI would love to see a picture of him in prison. I suspect he's been in a mansion in Connecticut. That's my theory. I don't know if he's ever spent a day in prison. Hollywood baby.β
Paul weighed in:
βYou blew my mind on that because Yeah. I haven't seen one. Yeah. Not that I can recall. I haven't seen one.β
She said that she would have loved to have a career which had to do something in the arts and the creative field. Elsewhere during the conversation, Rose McGowan said that while she was doing Scream, everyone talked about the boss, Harvey Weinstein, whom she called a βloser.β Recalling how people on set talked about him, she said:
βThe only thing I would hear would be this kind of like fear when people would mention him.β
Describing Harvey Weinstein, Rose McGowan went on to say:
βI think it was like the mafia boss really honestly. And he was, you know, big and giant and and tough. And I later I would see like grown men shake if you walked in the room. Like adult men that were like power players. They would like start physically shaking. The terror.β
What did Rose McGowan say about her initial encounter with Harvey Weinstein?
Paul asked what gave Harvey Weinstein so much power. Rose McGowan replied that she believed it was not just his job position, but his intimidating and aggressive behavior. She said he acted more like a bully than a classy movie boss.
According to her, he used the idea of trading favors in movies as a cover for a long time, but that was not really what drove him. She explained that he targeted certain people on purpose and seemed to enjoy controlling and hurting them, almost like he was never satisfied and always wanted more power over others. Recalling her initial encounter with Harvey Weinstein, Rose McGowan said:
βI thought he's going to be so charmed by my knowledge of film. I hear he loves cinema. He talks about how he loves cinema. That's what we talked for the first 45 minutes of this hourlong meeting was just talking about film and cinema and classic films and this and that.β
However, she added:
βAnd it was actually on my way out. I was almost out. I saw the door. I saw the door and then it just kind of like got sideways pulled into like a room with like a hot tub and then next thing as people say they go through this very fast and very slow and the next thing I know I'm like have no clothes on and I'm like just like a statue.β
In 2017, Rose McGowan accused Harvey Weinstein of r*ping her. Six years later, he was ordered by a court to serve a 16-year prison term for s*xual assault, accusations of which were raised by other women. He had denied the claims.
