Prominent director James Gunn, widely known for his big-budget Hollywood blockbusters, recently gained the attention of netizens with his response to internet personality Trisha Paytas naming her newborn son Aquaman. Gunn, whose brand new film Superman, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, was released on July 11, 2025, turned out to be a theatrical success.

The 58-year-old filmmaker, James Gunn's witty yet "classy" response to Trisha Paytas' decision to name her baby son, Aquaman, impressed the netizens, as they praised the successful director.

Internet personality and YouTuber Trisha Paytas, who gave birth to her first son on July 12, 2025, rose to fame on social media platforms for her lifestyle vlogs and music videos. With 1.8 million followers on Instagram, Paytas is widely popular for her mukbangs.

James Gunn, who, besides being a well-established director, is also the co-CEO and co-Chairman of DC Studios, opened up to Entertainment Weekly when the outlet got in touch with him regarding the matter. The Suicide Squad director, very interestingly yet tactfully, said:

"I saw that, yes. I think that’s cool! I mean… I hope he does okay in school."

While mentioning how he faced difficult situations because of his own surname, James said:

"I had a hard time with the last name Gunn, like, ‘Tommy Gun, BB Gun, Ray Gun.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, we get it.’"

The Slither director then asked the outlet:

"Is the middle name Gary or something? Won’t he get made fun of at school? Do kids make fun of kids anymore?” If anything, it could give him an advantage – what kid is going to mess with Aquaman?"

YouTuber Trisha Paytas, who is married to Israeli artist Moses Hacmon, besides her newborn son, shares two daughters, Malibu Barbie and Elvis, with him. She took to her Instagram and shared a carousel post with a bunch of pictures of her and her son, Aquaman. The carousel post also included several other pictures of her family. Paytas captioned the picture:

"AQUAMAN MOSES PAYTAS-HACMON. Born 07.12.25 @ 12:40 am."

While Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was not as successful as DCU's Aquaman, it seems James Gunn's Superman just might turn out to be a blockbuster. According to Movieweb, Superman, which is supposed to revive the DC Universe, is currently performing quite well at the theaters. However, it has to earn at least $700 million to reach the mark of profitability. With a production budget of $225 million, the movie has so far earned $503 million globally, as per The Numbers, as of July 29.
