When Liam Neeson, the maestro of serious drama, meets Pamela Anderson, the ultimate 90s icon, the result is pure comedic alchemy and we have The Naked Gun. In the reboot of The Naked Gun, Neeson plays Frank Drebin Jr., inheriting Leslie Nielsen’s legendary role, while Anderson brings glam and grit as Beth, his femme fatale partner in crime. Releasing August 1, 2025, this high-octane action comedy is a well- deserved tribute to the original film franchise, and is now one of the most anticipated films of the year.

Talking about their experience with the film, Anderson told The Hollywood Reporter,

“It was so much fun, it was such a great project and what a great way to get to know somebody and laugh every day, just know that you’re contributing to something funny."

They further continued to open up on if they ever looked back after getting themselves into the genre as Neeson added, “There was a few of those, yeah. But it was all still joyful.” Anderson then quipped,

“It was fun to be part of something that was just schoolboy humor, schoolgirl humor and just have a few laughs. Everyone likes to have those belly laughs and be silly. I think laughter is medicine and I think it’s much needed.”

Neeson admits he was “slightly nervous” about steering this ship, during Entertainment Weekly's cover story, but co-star Paul Walter Hauser assured that he was doing it right. Now, he’s trading brooding intensity for perfectly timed pratfalls and staying straight-faced through absurdity, just as any good spoof detective should.

After years of waiting,The Naked Gun is finally back, with a stellar cast and a plot that gives good justice to the original series. Liam Neeson is now playing Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the equally clueless son of Leslie Nielsen’s original deadpan disaster of a cop. Directed by Akiva Schaffer, the film marks a direct sequel to the original trilogy, not a reboot, not a reimagining, just good old-fashioned chaos 2.0.

And yes, the O.J. question does get addressed. Director Schaffer admitted in an interview that the first thing anyone asked when he brought up the reboot was “What are you doing about O.J.?” as he stated,

"The first time I would tell any friend, 'Hey, I'm thinking of writing this thing,' they go, 'What are you going to do about O.J.?' So we had to answer the O.J. question."

Set in a world where Police Squad might be shut down and replaced by a Spirit Halloween, Drebin Jr. teams up with Pamela Anderson’s Beth to catch her brother’s killer. Danny Huston plays tech overlord Richard Cane owns Edentech, who noted Stanley Kubrick's 1964 classic Dr. Strangelove as his inspiration for playing the villain.

The Naked Gun will hit theaters on August 1, 2025.
