Jamie Lee Curtis will appear alongside Lindsay Lohan in the film, Freakier Friday, set to release in August this year. The film is a sequel to the 2003 hit, Freaky Friday. In the film, Academy Award-winning actress Curtis plays mother to Lohan’s character. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about her relationship with Lohan, with whom she shared the screen 22 years ago, Curtis said,

“I've known Lindsay since she was 15. That’s just an extraordinary thing, to watch someone walk through life.”

Lindsay Lohan attained success as a child star with her breakthrough performance in the Disney film, The Parent Trap. The film was released in 1998 when Lohan was only twelve.

As per Curtis, Lohan was still in her mid-teens during the filming of Freaky Friday. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Curtis insisted that their bond was not a mere promotional act for the film. Echoing Curtis’s emotions, Lohan described her feelings about playing the role of Curtis’s daughter. As per Entertainment Weekly, Lohan said,

“It's not very often that you get to work with someone who's been such a big part of your life on a personal level. That was exciting for me, to come back and do a big-screen film with a woman that I admire, that's part of my life off screen. To have that chance again, it doesn't happen much. I felt lucky to be able to do it.”

Both Freaky Friday and its sequel, Freakier Friday, work through the theme of mother-daughter relationships. While the 2003 film focused on the dynamics between Curtis and Lohan’s characters (who play Tess and Anna, respectively), the dynamics get more complicated in the sequel.

Freakier Friday sees Lohan playing the daughter to Curtis and the role of a single mother. Speaking about the theme of motherhood and its portrayal onscreen, Lohan shared with Entertainment Weekly,

“The closeness that you have with your child, and that bond — how irreplaceable that is, and wanting to do the right thing for your child — is always the most important thing in the world, and nothing can stand in the way of that. I also didn't have the calmness that a mother needs to have when a child is losing it. Now, I get to play with that. I get to have those moments that Tess used to have with Anna.”

Lindsay Lohan’s views on her career post-motherhood

Lindsay Lohan and her husband, Bader Shammas, became parents in 2023 when their son, Luai, was born. During an interview with Allure in 2023 while she was pregnant, Lohan shared the advice she received from her onscreen mother in Freaky Friday. According to Lohan, Curtis gave her an important piece of advice about balancing motherhood and work. While speaking with Allure, Lohan shared,

“I spoke to Jamie Lee Curtis recently and she was like, ‘You just bring the baby with you and everything will be fine.’”

Lindsay Lohan did indeed follow her onscreen mother’s advice. While speaking exclusively to E! News, Lohan said,

“I'm still fortunate he's young, so I can bring him everywhere… and he is everywhere with me, because I don't want to leave him.”

Lohan further shared with the outlet that her son’s presence in her life influences her decisions as far as the roles she selects to play onscreen are concerned.
