Nicole Eggert has opened up about her ongoing struggles with stage 2 breast cancer.
During the latest episode of her podcast, Perfectly Twisted, she got candid with her fans about undergoing a mastectomy and breast reconstruction surgery on Thursday, August 28. She said that her daughter also underwent surgery with her, though she did not clarify which one or the exact surgery.
Per People Magazine, the Baywatch alum shares Dilyn, 27, with Justin Herwick. She also mothers Keegan, 14, though the identity of her father remains unclear.
“I've had a lot of time to watch TV. That's been fun,” she told co-host Dave Palet on the Monday, September 1 episode. “I got a couple days to just lie there and watch garbage and take painkillers and it was a good time.”
She also opened up about how “excited” and “happy” she was now that the surgery was over:
“It was one of those surgeries that it was like so long overdue.”
Nicole Eggert gets candid about her "biggest fear" while dealing with breast cancer: Read more
Nicole Eggert first opened up to People Magazine about her diagnosis in January. At the time, she said that after dealing with “terrible pain” in her left breast and packing on 25 lbs in three months, she'd been diagnosed with stage 2 cribriform carcinoma breast cancer.
“It really was throbbing and hurting,” she recounted. “I immediately went to my general practitioner and she told me I had to immediately go get it looked at. But the problem was I just couldn’t get an appointment. Everything was booked. So I had to wait until the end of November to get it done.”
Per The New York Post, she took to her Instagram just this week to share another update with her fans:
"Had a mastectomy with reconstruction on Thursday. How was ur weekend?” she penned, alongside a selfie in a black compression sports bra and white panties.
In August, she reportedly told People Magazine that she was “good,” but
“I am in sort of a gray area and I finished my treatment, waiting for more imaging and hopefully maybe surgery.” For her, the “waiting” and “gray area is the hardest because you don’t know what’s happening … when I’m doing treatment, I felt like I was doing something productive. So it felt positive and I was like, okay, I’m doing something positive. And now that it’s just like nothing, it’s like, well wait a minute. We got to get this out. So it’s just frustrating.”
The New York Post has also reported that Nicole Eggert's father dealt with skin cancer while her mother dealt with colon cancer. In her conversation with People Magazine, she said that her “biggest fear” nowadays is not being there for her daughters:
“It immediately made me realize, ‘There’s just no succumbing to this. This is something I have to get through. This is something that I have to beat. She needs me more than anything and anybody,’” she shared.
Earlier this year, she also spoke to Fox News Digital about the difficulties of being health-centric in America, all while dealing with cancer treatments:
“I think people really need to start living a disease-preventative lifestyle. That's No. 1. It's very hard to be healthy here in America. It's just a fact,” Nicole Eggert said, while at the Women’s Cancer Research Fund Gala.
Nicole Eggert also used her diagnosis to advocate for caution:
“I do believe it's preventable, but if you do find yourself with the diagnosis, I think it's about using modern medicine along with lifestyle changes and all the other things that you can do to prevent disease. And it's a lot…There's just so much more you can and should be doing.”
