Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber’s trans daughter, Kai, has always known what she wanted to be in life.
Speaking with Interview Magazine for a Q&A session in an article that came out on Wednesday, the 16-year-old said she's been practicing for her dream career from a young age:
"I want to be a supermodel. Period,” she declared. “I’ve been practicing my walks in the kitchen for years; my mom can show you all the videos I forced her to film,” she continued. “Struggling with gender identity from a young age most likely had something to do with it.” She added, “I always wanted to grow up and be a beautiful, glamorous, influential woman, like Marilyn.”
Here's everything we know about Kai, and how her parents support her:
As reported by E! News, Kai made her runway debut earlier this year with Valentino, amid Paris Fashion Week. The following month, she was featured in the fashion brand's pre-fall campaign.
“That job made me realize, ‘Okay, this is what I want to do.’”
The high schooler noted during her interview that “the older generation of transgender people" serves as her inspiration:
“People like Alex Consani, Hunter Schafer, Hari Nef, Dara, Richie Shazam, Colin Jones, and so many more,” she said. “It’s so great that there’s a strong community of us in the fashion world; it’s really a doll takeover.”
She revealed that she has already figured out her own sense of style, which helps her make “the world more fun.”
“I love my low-rise jeans and black cardigan. That’s my go-to outfit,” she said. “I love when people have their own personal style…If you’re presenting yourself in a unique, cool way, people are immediately drawn in and want to know more. If every person was walking around in the same outfit, fashion wouldn’t be a thing.”
She also told the outlet that when it comes to grooming her beauty, "less is more, especially with skincare."
"I used to buy anything I saw on TikTok and then burn my face off because of it; that wasn’t cute. Now I just wash my face and put on moisturizer," she said. "In terms of makeup, my everyday look is just covering up the mishaps and a little eyeliner," continued Schreiber. "Oh, and I always have my lip combo—I can’t go anywhere without her."
Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber have been vocal about their support for their daughter. Just earlier this year, the latter revealed that their daughter never had to come out to him and Watts, as he spoke to Variety in May:
“Kai was always who Kai is,” the 57-year-old said at the time. “But I suppose the most profound moment was her asking us to change her pronouns. To be honest with you, it didn’t feel like that big of a deal to me only because Kai had been so feminine for so long.”
Adding that his daughter is “as feisty and outspoken as they come," the Perfect Couple actor continued:
“Kai is such a fighter. It’s important that she goes, ‘Hey, I am trans,’ and, ‘Look at me.’”
Liev and Watts were together for eleven years, from 2005 to 2016. They also share a 17-year-old son, Sasha, while the former fathers a 21-month-old daughter, Hazel Bee, with his wife, Taylor Schreiber.
Back in March, when she made her runway debut, Kai's father gushed over her when he spoke to TMZ:
"She does what she wants with her life, and I'm super proud of her," he said. "I thought she did an amazing job in the show."
When she shot for Valentino's pre-fall campaign, Naomi Watts took to Instagram to celebrate her achievements:
“Congratulations @kaischreiberrr — so exciting!! ❤️,” the actress, 56, captioned, adding, “Beaming with pride 😃 🙌.”
