“I want to be able to set an example” — Coi Leray opens up about the meaning of her daughter's name

Rapper Coi Leray is being candid about her pregnancy and the joys of expecting a girl child. During a conversation with The Shade Room published on May 8, Leray spoke about being prepared to raise a child with her values and deriving strength from the experience of motherhood.

About her priorities, Leray said,

“I keep God first, always. — I have so many things to be happy about. I’m about to be a new mom, about to have a little girl. So she gives me a whole different type of new motivation. I have to be strong, and I have to understand that there’s going to be a lot of things that happen in life, but at the end of the day, I have someone now that I have to raise that’s going to look up to me, and I want to be able to set an example that’s one.”

Leray is expecting her daughter with rapper Trippie Redd. She revealed that she plans to call her daughter ‘Miyoco.’ Leray, who celebrated her baby shower a few days ago, also told The Shade Room that the name is an amalgamation of her and her child’s father’s name.

Trippie Redd’s legal first name is Michael, from which Leray has derived the first part of ‘Miyoco,’ the second part coming from her own name. Leray shared with The Shade Room that she came across the name, which means ‘beautiful child,’ through her friend’s sister.

Coi Leray also shared how she wants to impart life lessons to her daughter. The rapper said to The Shade Room,

“What you put in this earth is going to come back to you at the end of the day, and it can come back to you in so many different shapes and forms. — I want her to be very careful with boys growing up, because that’s something I had to learn. I think we all got to learn as a women, you know what is good for you? Um, and I want her to I want to be protected and understand self love is the best love.”

Coi Leray and Trippie Redd’s relationship explored

Coi Leray and Trippie Redd were first linked in 2019. The two rappers toured together at the time with Redd’s ‘Life’s A Trip’ tour, according to HypeBeast. The duo also collaborated on the track, Everything BoZ from Red’s album, !.

At the time, in a conversation with Revolt TV, Redd spoke about his creative relationship with Leray, revealing,

“We’re with each other all the time. So, it’s like instinct for us to vibe on some other shit and come up with stuff together. [Coi] always helps me with my [work], and I put my input in hers. We really just be chillin’, vibing, having fun. Normal shit.”

Soon, the musicians parted ways, and Redd released a track called Leray, where he dissed his former partner, according to VIBE. Leray was quick to call the rapper out, as per the news outlet.

In 2024, TMZ reported that Leray and Redd were back together after Redd began messaging Leray on Instagram.

In January 2025, Coi Leray revealed in a now-deleted post on Instagram that she is expecting a child with Redd, according to People Magazine. Just as things were looking great for the happy couple, People Magazine reported that within three weeks, the Blick Blick rapper took to her Instagram stories to share that Redd cheated on her.
