During a May 15 episode of Monet X Change's Monet Talks podcast, Amber Riley was asked if she would be returning to a new version of Glee. While responding with a hard "No!", Riley said,

"I love answering this question. No! I just feel like what we did was so phenomenal, I don't want to risk trying to reinvent the wheel. Now if they redo it, I think that's amazing, because there are so many kids now that are just now discovering Glee, and so I think that'd be really dope. But, you know, we lost cast members. I just feel like the chemistry, that formula, was so specific, and it's changed now, so I don't know if it would be as affective."

Riley also added that she's "always prepared" for that question. However, Riley implied that instead of a reboot, if her character Mercedes got a spinoff of her own, she's onboard,

"If Mercedes got a spinoff on her own, I would do that."

The music series aired over six seasons from 2009 to 2015, and won six Emmy Awards. Riley's words about a Glee reunion come after fans suspected a cast feud, after she unfollowed co-stars Dianna Agron and Darren Criss on Instagram last month.

What happened between Amber Riley and the other cast members?

Glee fans suspected a cast feud when Amber Riley, who played the character of Mercedes Jones on the show, unfollowed Dianna Agron, who played Quinn Fabray, and Darren, who played Blaine Anderson, on Instagram last month.

While Amber has not made any public comments about her co-stars or addressed feud rumors, fans speculated if Amber's decision to unfollow the two came after Dianna and Darren reunited with Lea Michele in April.

For context, Samantha Ware and other Glee cast members reportedly accused Lea Michele of creating a toxic work environment. At the time of the feud, Amber publicly sided with Samantha and also spoke up against Lea.

During a 2020 livestream, Amber Riley, while speaking to journalist Danielle Young, allegedly implied that Lea Michele was racist,

"I'm not going to say that Lea Michele is racist. That's not what I'm saying. That was the assumption because of what's going on right now in the world and it happened toward a Black person. I'm not going to say that she's racist."

Two years later, Ziwe asked Riley in the latter's self-titled series about the race aspect of her conversation on Lea, to which Riley responded, saying,

"I think that she would probably say she doesn't see race. But as we discussed earlier, everyone does."

Amber Riley is not the only one who doesn't see the potential of a Glee reboot. In September 2024, Darren, while speaking to The Mirror, also added that he doesn't feel like a Glee reboot is necessary.
