Actress Jodie Comer starred in Danny Boyle’s thriller 28 Years Later. Discussing the new release with The Hollywood Reporter, Boyle shared that after more than two decades, it felt like the right time to take bold creative risks with his new film.

He explained that the goal was to make something unique and impactful like the original. For the unversed, the movie is the third sequel to the director’s previous works, 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.

Doyle also mentioned that the updated version of the infected characters was exciting to both film and watch, and he believed audiences would enjoy the changes. Meanwhile, working with the director was a different experience for Jodie Comer, as she told the outlet:

ā€œIt was amazing to be led by Danny. Selfishly, to work with Danny Boyle. I’m never going to shoot a film like this. It’s been the most incredible experience.ā€

Reflecting on her overall experience of doing the film, Jodie Comer said:

ā€œIt’s horror, but I was struck by how moved I was. There was so much levity. The script felt so rich and also really at the centre of it is this family dynamic, this relationship between mother and son, which is not your usual relationship.ā€

Danny Boyle explained that since the movie was entirely British, from the cast to the filming locations, its success outside the UK would likely determine if they could secure funding for the next installment.

Jodie Comer shares what she liked about Danny Boyle’s set

Jodie Comer previously shared that working on a Danny Boyle set had been an incredible experience for her. She was amazed by how the camera work connected so closely with the characters and the story.

Filming in stunning outdoor settings and suddenly being thrown into intense, frightening scenes caught her off guard. The tension felt very real, and she believed that those high-stress moments brought a mix of fear and excitement.

She also felt that Danny Boyle added a deep emotional and human touch to the thriller genre. While conversing with Kelly and Mark about shooting the movie, Jodie Comer said:

ā€œWe mainly shot it in Northumberland in and around Newcastle."

The actress added:

ā€œCinematically, the locations in this film are so spectacular we were in the forest for a lot of this which was good for the soul.ā€

When Kelly asked if there were many frightening moments, Jodie Comer said there were. She admitted that the anxious, uneasy feeling wasn’t something she particularly enjoyed.

However, after being part of the project and seeing how everything was done behind the scenes, especially with the way the cinematographer, Anthony Dod Mantle, handled the camera, she became curious to see the final result.

On set, she wasn’t sure how it would all look, but once she saw it, she found the visual style bold, creative, and unique in how it helped tell the story.
