President Donald Trump's recent statements regarding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have sparked outrage and drawn ridicule, particularly from The Late Show host Stephen Colbert. The President, during a press conference in Scotland, denied ever visiting the famed Epstein Island, to which Stephen Colbert said:

"I'm sorry, what?"

In a joint press conference with the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Trump Turnberry on 28 July, 2025, when inquired about Epstein, President Trump told The Independent:

“I never had the privilege of going to his island, and I did turn it down, but a lot of people in Palm Beach were invited to his island. In one of my very good moments, I turned it down.”

Trump also claimed that he removed Epstein from Mar-a-Lago when the financier attempted to recruit staff from his club. According to The Times, Trump said:

"And I threw him out of the place, persona non grata. I threw him out, and that was it."

Although Trump's name appears in Epstein's flight logs, there is no publicly confirmed evidence that the President visited Little St. James Island.

Colbert ridicules Trump's "privilege" comment

During his Late Show monologue on July 29, 2025, Stephen Colbert criticized Trump by imitating him. Right before he imitated Trump, he said:

"I'm sorry, what?"

Then, in Trump's voice, he joked, referencing serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer to highlight the ridiculousness:

"Sadly, I never had the honor of dining with Jeffrey Dahmer."

In his monologue, he praised the President for showing "some moral backbone" right before they cut to the President, who said that he severed his connection because of his staff poaching.

Colbert ridiculed his reasoning for severing connections with Epstein, which Trump said was motivated by staff poaching rather than moral concerns. Once again, in Trump's voice, he ridiculed him, saying:

"Sorry, Jeff. Underage sex trafficking is one thing. But I draw the line at you stealing my omelet man, okay? He's the only one that knows I like ham."

Trump's remarks against Epstein came just days after CBS announced the end of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, effective May 2026. Colbert and others, including Jon Stewart, have accused CBS's parent company, Paramount, of succumbing to political pressure.

Trump took to Truth Social to celebrate and wrote:

“I absolutely love that Colbert was fired.”

To which Stephen Colbert replied that the "gloves are off."

He also led a choir and the studio audience in a chorus of "go f*** yourselves" in response to firms that bowed to Trump.

Stewart speculated that the move may be related to Paramount's dependence on the Federal Communications Commission—now under Trump's administration—for approval of its $8 billion merger with Skydance.

Speaking about this, he said:

“The fact that CBS didn’t try to save their No 1 rated late-night franchise that’s been on the air for over three decades is part of what’s making everybody wonder, was this purely financial, or maybe the path of least resistance for your $8bn merger?”

To date, there is no evidence that confirms that the President was on Epstein's island.
