You star Madeline Brewer in an exclusive conversation with People, published on June 1, hit back at online trolls who called her ugly after she starred as Bronte, aka Louise Flannery, in the series' final season. When asked if she was surprised by the fan comments, Madeline said,

"A little bit. I'll be honest, I didn't expect people to like Bronte, but I didn't expect them to call me ugly, because I'm not. I get that I'm not everybody's cup of tea, but I'm not ugly. I had thought that the largest fan base of this show is women, young women, and I never anticipated the amount of misogyny to be fired at me."

Before joining the final season, Madeline Brewer said that she was a "huge fan" of the show and was "excited to be a part of that world" but didn't expect the fan reaction. In the conversation, Brewer also opened up about her experience of being bullied as a child, and fan comments suggesting she needed plastic surgery "triggered" her. However, she's also grateful that she's at an age (30s) where she can handle the comments,

"I feel very grateful that his didn't happen at an earlier time in my life. If this had happened when I was 25, I would have crumbled because I wasn't in therapy yet. Being in my 30s, I don't care. I knew I could handle it."

"You know what? I have other things to do" - says Madeline Brewer

Her recent conversation with People isn't the first time Madeline Brewer has acknowledged fan hate after her stint on You. Earlier, while speaking to Glamour in an article published on May 13, when asked how she feels about the fan backlash, Madeline waves it off by saying she has "other things to do,"

"You know what? I have other things to do. I have a wedding to plan because I'm going to marry a man who loves me and is obsessed with me and who I'm obsessed with, and I'm also gonna study Fredrick Neitzsche, because I have other things to think about with my brain."

Madeline Brewer is engaged to her fiancé and cinematographer, Jack Thompson-Roylance, and while speaking to People, she said that she looks to him when she needs extra reassurance. While talking about Thompson-Roylance, Madeline said that he thinks "the sun shines out of my butt" and that she's the "most beautiful woman in the world."
