Emma Watson has had one of the most successful careers in the industry as a child, rising to fame with her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise. For a decade, the actress was linked to to 8-part series as one of the leads and became one of the biggest young stars of that era, along with co-stars Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe.
Over the years, however, she has strayed away from the spotlight and the screens, focusing more on personal projects and humanitarian work. Making her re-appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, the actress is now back in the spotlight, hinting at something new that she's been working on.
In an interview with Hollywood Authentic, Emma Watson talked about her hiatus from acting, and the one thing she doesn't miss about being away from her profession. When asked about her being away from the screen, the actress said,
"A bigger component than the actual job itself is the promotion and selling of that piece of work, this piece of art. The balance of that can get quite thrown off. I think I’ll be honest and straight-forward, and say: I do not miss selling things. I found that to be quite soul-destroying. But I do very much miss using my skill-set, and I very much miss the art."
She then continued to talk about how she has been in a happier and healthier space as she continues to explore her life and her career, as she added,
"I am maybe the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been. I think what’s interesting about being an actor is, there’s a tendency to sort of fracture yourself into multiple personalities. I’m not just talking about the roles you play, but having the weight of a public persona, that sort of needs constant feeding and sprucing and glamorising. It’s very energy-intensive stuff. And shedding the multiple identities has freed up so much space, I think, for me to be a better sister, daughter, friend, granddaughter, and then artist. And someone who’s trying to do some critical thinking of her own."
What is Emma Watson's next project?
After her stint as Hermione Granger, Emma Watson moved on to roles that defied the genre she initially worked with. Indie hits, book adaptations, Disney live-action films and period dramas- you name it. From playing Margaret March in Greta Gerwig's Little Women to playing Belle in Disney's Beauty and the Beast; Watson's career after the Harry Potter franchise has been nothing short of impressive.
After Little Women, the actress has not worked on anything new, except for the HBO Max special titled Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts where she reunited with her cast mates. As of now, there's no known project she is attached to, although she has hinted that there's something she has been working on.
Apart from acting, Emma Watson has her own gin brand with her brother Alex Watson. She also continues to be a fierce advocate for causes she believes in, and has partnered with Prada's Re-Nylon, a sustainable product belonging to the brand.
