German actor Udo Kier is no more. As per a statement from his partner, Delbert McBride, the 81-year-old actor died on November 23. Kier is known for his works in films like Blood for Dracula, Flesh for Frankenstein, and My Own Private Idaho, among others. The late actor was also supposed to appear in Japanese video game designer Hideo Kojima’s OD. Kojima paid tribute to Kier in an Instagram post, where he wrote:“I’m at a loss for words. It all happened far too suddenly. Because of the strike, we weren’t able to shoot “OD” for a long time, and we were forced to reschedule to next year. Even during that time, Udo and I exchanged emails frequently. We stayed in close contact.”Kojima also wrote:“When we met in Milan at the end of September, he told me how much he was looking forward to the shoot starting up again next year. He was full of energy then too, making me laugh with his usual “Udo-isms.” I still can’t believe this.”Hideo Kojima also said that Udo Kier was more than an actor, calling him an icon. He wrote that no one could replace him. View this post on Instagram Instagram PostHere’s how Udo Kier met Paul MorrisseyUdo Kier starred in Leonid Prudovsky’s 2022 comedy-drama My Neighbor Adolf. During an interview with the Locarno Film Festival, he said Leon came to meet him in Palm Springs from Paris. He felt the film was a tragic comedy, specifically the reason why he liked the story. Speaking of why he liked to play evil characters, the actor said:“I like to play evil characters because that's what people remember. You see, there is two ways I can take a gun and shoot you but I can also have a gun in front of me and I clean my fingernails and I say, ‘You know when I'm done, I'm going to kill you.’”Remembering the time he first met director Paul Morrissey, Udo Kier said:“I sit in an airplane next to me an American man and they say, ‘What you do for a living?’ America always wants to know what you do for a living and I said I'm an actor and showed him my photograph and he said, ‘Ah interesting. Give me your number.’ and he took out his American passport and wrote my number in his passport and I said there was no other number so I thought wow that's interesting. I said, ‘Who are you?’ He said, ‘My name is Paul Morrissey.’”Udo Kier said that a few weeks later, he got a call from Paul Morrissey, who reminded him that they had met on the plane. Paul told him he was making a 3D Frankenstein movie and had a small part for him. When Udo asked what role he would play, Paul said he would be Frankenstein.Another incident was when Gus Van Sant approached him and said he had made a small movie for little money, but his next one would be bigger, and he wanted Udo in it. Udo Kier then learned that Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix would also be in the movie.
