A judge has reportedly moved to unseal the private text exchanges between Justin Baldoni and others as his legal battle with Blake Lively rages on.
Us Weekly has reported that on August 14, presiding Judge Lewis J. Liman ordered some redacted texts and emails to be unsealed. This reportedly included texts between the Jane the Virgin alum, 41, and his publicist.
In it, the former shared a screenshot of an Instagram account that was an “example of someone trolling" Blake Lively on his page. He claimed that it didn't look like a “real account," to which the publicist, Melissa Nathan, pointed out that it could be an “actual troll,” and it was “100 percent” not someone from his team.
The legal drama between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni explored:
As seen in other texts obtained by The Daily Mail on Monday, Melissa Nathan also alleged in her texts that Wayfarer Studios shelled out $30K to social media specialist Jed Wallace per month in August, September, and October last year.
It was reportedly part of a “creation of social fan engagement to go back and forth with any negative accounts, helping to change narrative and stay on track.” She also claimed that the PR contractor's work would be “untraceable," and in another text, she wrote: “Please meet Jed who will be having his team assist on all social activity based off our own conversations as well as their digital plan you are in receipt of."
A source also told the outlet that in hiring Wallace, Baldoni was able to shift the narrative online in his favor by operating anonymous accounts and trolling Blake Lively's fans online. Her lawyers also acknowledged that some of the backlash was genuine, though they maintained that the rest of it was part of a smear campaign.
“There is an overwhelming amount of evidence documenting the smear campaign instigated by Justin Baldoni, Melissa Nathan, Jed Wallace and the rest of the Wayfarer Parties. All you need to do is look at Melissa Nathan’s texts, Baldoni’s responses, and Jed Wallace’s ‘services,'" a spokesperson for the actress said.
In another text, Nathan wrote, per Page Six:
“Quote two $25k per month — min 3 months as it needs to seed same as above — this will be for creation of social fan engagement to go back and forth with any negative accounts, helping to change narrative and stay on track," adding that “all of this will be most importantly untraceable.”
In yet another text exchange involving Nathan, her employee Katie Case, and Baldoni’s publicist Jennifer Abel, Case can be seen arguin that Blake Lively’s team should “grow up,” arguing that “they promoted a movie about DOMESTIC VIOLENCE as if it was a silly rom com,” noting, “what did they expect.”
She then pointed to an infamous video of Blake Lively calling on her fans to “wear your florals” when they watch It Ends With Us, which touches on aspects of domestic violence.
“Like come on,” Case wrote. “We had NOTHING to do with that.”
Someone else in the chat concurred:
“This is crazy. She doesn’t have a good reputation. All of this is organic stuff from real people making TikToks — not bots.”
Case added,
“We didn’t tell Jed to go after the idea that her promo was inappropriate. That happened organically. Because people saw the actual movie and were like wait… This is a movie about domestic violence. That they wore florals [to].”
Blake Lively is suing Justin Baldoni for allegedly harassing her on the set of the movie, as well as allegedly orchestrating a smear campaign against her. Wallace, however, has since countersued for defamation and is maintaining his innocence. Baldoni has also refuted the claims. Their case is expected to go to trial in March 2026.
