Inside Charissa Thompson’s friendship with Travis Kelce as sportscaster receives Taylor Swift’s Pop-Tarts

Sports broadcaster Charissa Thompson got a taste of pop star Taylor Swift’s famous homemade pop-tarts. On June 1, Thompson took to Instagram to share candid moments from her life, and fans were quick to note that one of the snapshots included a picture of Swift’s well-known sweet treats in a box marked ‘Charissa.’

Only select recipients are lucky enough to receive Swift’s famous pop-tarts, which the I Can Do It with a Broken Heart singer has gifted to personnel who helped her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, with a shoot, as well as to the Chiefs’ linemen, as per People Magazine. Now, it seems like Kelce’s longtime friend, Charissa Thompson, might have been the latest recipient of Swift’s pop-tarts as a gift.

As per the sportscaster’s own admission, she has a deep friendship with football tight end Kelce. While speaking to US Weekly last month, Thompson said,

“Travis has been a good friend for a long time and I just love who he is as a person and I always want him to be happy”

Incidentally, Thompson might have played a big part in Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift getting together.

About Charissa Thompson’s alleged role in Taylor Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce

Charissa Thompson first publicly urged Taylor Swift to give her friend Kelce a chance and date him. In August 2023, Calm Down with Erin and Charissa, Thompson, alongside her co-host, Erin Andrews, referred to the pop star and encouraged her to pursue Kelce. According to CNN, during the podcast Andrews addressed Swift and, urging her to date Kelce, said,

“Taylor, I don’t know what you are doing in your life right now besides rocking the world. Please try our friend Travis. He is fantastic.”

Thompson also prodded Swift and, as per the news outlet, said,

“Do it for yourself, do it for us and do it for the people because there is no one that would give you a better time than this guy.”

Besides the fact that Thompson and Andrews knew Kelce well, the sportscaster’s inspiration behind initiating a conversation on the Swift-Kelce pairing came from the fact that Kelce had previously shared his interest in dating Swift during his own podcast.

As per Billboard, Kelce, during an earlier episode of his podcast New Heights, had expressed his disappointment in not being able to get acquainted with Swift and give her his number when the Grammy Award-winning singer had visited Kansas City as a part of her Eras Tour.

At the time, Kelce had opened up about his disappointment to his brother and fellow NFL star Jason Kelce. Sharing details about the missed encounter, Kelce said,

“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets. I received a bunch of them being there, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it…I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings…so I was a little butt-hurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”

US Weekly reports that Swift began speaking to Kelce after he commented on his desire to date her during his podcast.

Travis Kelce on 'owing' Charissa Thompson

While reacting to an Instagram post containing the quote urging Swift to date Kelce, the NFL player told Charissa Thompson and Erin Andrews that he was grateful for their support. CNN noted that Kelce commented on the post and wrote,

“You two are something else!! I owe you big time!!”

As per the publication, Thompson and Andrews, through their podcast account, wrote back,

“We do what we can. This is what we’re here for.”

While Kelce and Swift hadn’t officially confirmed their relationship at the time, the pop star had already been spotted at the box during a couple of Kansas City Chiefs games, prompting widespread fan speculation about their relationship.

In fact, Thomson, during a recent interview, spoke about leading to the formation of the famous couple. About Swift's relationship with Kelce, she told US Weekly,

"We do not get any credit for it but we were definitely big advocates of it, and I’m so happy to see them so happy together.”

In 2024, Andrews and Thompson had joked on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that they were responsible for the union of the NFL player and his pop star girlfriend, Taylor Swift. Kelce made sure to remind them that they were "the best" in response to the clip posted on Instagram.
