As Swoon reported, Alexis Bledel had kept her personal life firmly out of the public eye. Since finalizing her divorce in 2022, the actress hadn’t been tied to anyone publicly. And unlike many of her peers, the Crypto star avoided social media altogether, choosing privacy over constant attention.

But on Emmy night, privacy gave way to nostalgia. Two decades after Gilmore Girls turned them into one of television’s most recognizable duos, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham walked out together to present Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. The award went to The Studio, but the reunion easily stole its own moment.

“Twenty-five years ago,” Graham began, “a show called Gilmore Girls premiered and apparently took the season of fall hostage.”

Alexis Bledel picked it up:

“In spite of our autumnal dominance, Gilmore was actually a very small show.”

To which Graham cracked,

“Meaning we have no money.”

Alexis Bledel’s private life: Marriage, motherhood, and split from Vincent Kartheiser

Alexis Bledel’s marriage to Vincent Kartheiser stretched from 2014 to 2022. The two met in a very Hollywood way, on set. She guest-starred in Mad Men’s fifth season as Pete Campbell’s mistress, the very character played by Kartheiser himself. A romance followed off-screen, and by 2012, they were dating.

They never flaunted their relationship. In fact, fans only learned about their growing family in 2015 when Alexis Bledel's Gilmore Girls co-star Scott Patterson revealed she had given birth to a son. “She’s really blossomed as a woman and now she’s a proud new mother and married and happy,” Patterson told Glamour a year later.

“We’re comparing notes because my son [born July 2014] is about a year and a half older than her young son. I’m showing her photos and videos and what to expect. We’re just really enjoying each other’s company,” she shared.

But the quiet life together didn’t last. Kartheiser filed for divorce on August 10, 2022. A source close to the pair explained to Us Weekly:

“They didn’t have a huge circle of friends but they both made up for it with very thriving and busy careers — almost to a fault. Vincent has always been a little bit of a lone wolf and he’s going to benefit from time on his own.”

Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham reflect on their first meeting and why Rory and Lorelai endure:

When Glamour asked Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham in 2016 why Rory and Lorelai worked so well together, Bledel pointed to their differences.

“Because they’re so different, like The Odd Couple, they have opposite personalities and preferences, but there are enough overlaps in their habits that make them able to hang out as friends. They really compliment one another and are each really distinctly drawn characters in their own right, so you care about both of them as well as what they mean to each other, ” she shared.

The actresses also reminisced about their first encounter before filming began.

“We met in the lobby of the hotel we were all staying at in Canada right before we went to dinner with Amy and Dan, that was the first time we met, and it felt like it was all of a sudden because it wasn’t an organized…I mean, we knew we were going to have dinner,” Bledel recalled.
“That’s crazy, isn’t that now to think of?” Graham shared
“We didn’t read together, they didn’t sit us down, they just were like, ‘Yeah,’” added Graham.

At just 18, Alexis Bledel admitted she was starstruck.

“I just remember Lauren was a real professional actress, and this was my first job. [Laughs] She had all the poise and confidence and energy of a performer! That was a new thing for me. I didn’t know how to be that yet, so I just remember being a little bit…”
“Overwhelmed, you had to be…” Graham offered.
“Dazzled [by her],” Bledel shared.
“Oh, dazzled! I like dazzled!” Graham replied warmly.

Graham then shared her perspective, admitting she, too, had felt vulnerable in those early days. Looking back on Alexis Bledel, she added:

“Now that you talk about the lobby [of the hotel], she seemed new. But I also thought [she was] perfect for the character. Perfect. I thought we hit it off, and I thought that in enough ways, we look alike… I was always impressed by how much just natural ability she had from the beginning.”

Looking back, what really came through in their conversation wasn’t just the nostalgia, but the way both women still seemed a little surprised by how it all started. Alexis remembered being dazzled, almost caught off guard by Lauren’s confidence, while Lauren admitted she was mostly improvising her way through those first days, too. That mix of inexperience and instinct is probably what gave their pairing such spark. It wasn’t overthought, it wasn’t manufactured. Two people just happened to click at the right time, and that’s what carried onto the screen. Years later, it still feels effortless, and maybe that’s why fans never let go.
