As of now, Brandy Norwood isn't married. However, Entertainment Now once reported that in 2002, when Brandy shared news of her pregnancy, she also announced she had secretly wed her child’s father, producer Robert Smith, the previous year. But by 2004, after daughter Sy’rai’s birth and a public breakup, Robert Smith confessed that the marriage had been staged.
In interviews with MTV News, Smith told New York radio stations WBLS and WQHT that he and Brandy Norwood had “feigned marriage” to protect the star’s wholesome image. The two even appeared in an MTV reality special following Brandy’s pregnancy. He later revealed that he had been seeing another woman, a film producer, when Brandy Norwood got pregnant. According to Smith, the two had since reconciled, and she was then expecting his child.
Meanwhile, Brandy Norwood recently sparked health concerns after she cut her recent concert short, walking off stage mid-performance.
Brandy Norwood explains why she left Chicago stage mid-show

Brandy Norwood worried her fans when she abruptly ended her concert in Chicago with Monica on October 18. The next day, she explained what really happened. Posting on Instagram, the singer opened up about the incident and thanked her supporters.
“Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and — most importantly — your prayers, I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night's performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint. Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance,” she said.
Brandy admitted she’d tried to push through.
“I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone's best efforts,” her post continued.
When she left, Monica stayed onstage and finished the rest of the set. The crowd, however, never got to hear their signature track, “The Boy Is Mine.” Brandy later thanked her friend for keeping things together.
“I'm deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism, and to the entire crew for their continued care and support. I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help moving forward.”
She ended the note on a hopeful note.
“Your understanding, patience, and unwavering belief mean the world to me. I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis."
People reported that audience videos showed Brandy stopping mid-song, telling the crowd,
“Give me one second, y’all. I gotta get my…” before she left the stage.
She didn’t return, and concertgoers were left waiting for answers that night.
Brandy Norwood’s past relationships: From Robert Smith controversy to Ryan Press split

Brandy Norwood’s relationship with producer Robert Smith once seemed like a fairy tale. However, in 2004, that illusion was publicly shattered. According to Entertainment Now, Smith’s reveal came just a month after the then-24-year-old singer released her album Afrodisiac. Brandy said she was “hurt and shocked” by Smith’s comments but did not deny them. Instead, she explained that what they shared was not a legal marriage but “a spiritual union and a true commitment to each other.”
She also stressed that they stayed connected through their daughter, Sy’rai.
“We still share a common bond through our daughter, Sy’rai,” she said, before criticizing Smith’s actions. “He is not thinking about her, me, or what we had together. He is trying to destroy my reputation while using me and our daughter to get publicity and radio airplay for his artists. I am stunned that he is being so dirty about it.”
Smith later issued his own statement, describing himself as a devoted father who had been granted joint custody of Sy’rai.
“When breaking off relationships it’s always difficult, and I prefer not to air our dirty laundry through the media. I was just stating the TRUTH, Brandy and I have many things to work out over a long period of time, [and] will hopefully [head] in a more positive direction,” he shared.
After the highly publicized fallout, Brandy found love again with music executive Ryan Press. However, as ABC News reported in 2014, the singer was single once more after ending her engagement to Press before her 35th birthday that February.
“They are both taking a step back actually. That’s what they both wanted to do, they’re friends and I think it’s the mature thing to do in a relationship is just evaluate where you are and move forward. The great thing is that they are friends and definitely that’s an important part and he’s still supportive of what she’s doing,” her representative told the outlet.
Brandy and Press announced their engagement in 2013. Her brother, singer Ray J, also expressed his desire to protect her. “Every guy is crazy,” he told ABC News Radio.
“I know I am so I just want to make sure she's happy and then I got her back — whatever she wants to do,” he shared.
Brandy Norwood also dated former NBA player Quentin Richardson in the 2000s.
