New updates on Days of Thunder 2 might excite fans

Last month, Tom Cruise hinted at the possibility of Days of Thunder 2, a sequel to his 1990 film. Now, there's new news surrounding it. Race car driver and friend of Cruise, Jeff Gordon, revealed that the actor told him the sequel is happening. Speaking to Road and Track, he said:

"I mean, all I can say is, I've known Tom [Cruise] for many years, and was on set this past year for Mission: Impossible, and then I went to the premiere. And the first words out of his mouth is, 'We're doing it. We’re doing “Days of Thunder 2."

In May, Cruise spoke to the Today Show Australia and mentioned that they are working on the sequels to Top Gun: Maverick and Days of Thunder. He said,

“Yeah, we’re thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what’s possible. It took me 35 years to figure out ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, so all of these things we’re working on, we’re discussing ‘Days of Thunder’ and ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’”

He added,

“There’s numerous other films that we’re actively working on right now. I’m always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film. I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did ‘The Revenant,’ and we’ll be coming out with that. That was an extraordinary experience and [‘Mission: Impossible’ director Christopher McQuarrie] and I are always working on several different films.”

While Days of Thunder was a commercial success, it mostly received mixed critical responses upon its release. The film was directed by the late Tony Scott, and the screenplay was written by Robert Towne. It starred Tom Cruise, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Nicole Kidman, and Michael Booker, among others.
