Hocus Pocus 3 might be a highly anticipated film for fans of the fantasy comedy franchise. The first one, which was released in 1993, was a commercial success, having grossed $53.2 million at the box office.
It also kickstarted a franchise which consisted of a novel, theme park, short film, and a sequel named Hocus Pocus 2. Sarah Jessica Parker has dropped a hint about Hocus Pocus 3. The actress recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live! by Andy Cohen, where she answered a question from the audience about the Disney franchise. She said,
“No more developments other than we would like to do it. We’ve been having some conversations.”
In 2023, Sean Bailey, the President of Disney Studios had confirmed that a third installment was in the works. He also revealed that Anne Fletcher (who directed the second film) and writer Jen D’Angelo will be returning for the project. In 2024, Bette Midler had stated that she heard rumblings about Hocus Pocus 3 and nearly urged the makers to make it while the actors are still around. She said,
“I think if they’re gonna [do it], they oughtta because time is not just marching. Time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”
The first film was directed by Kenny Ortega, while the screenplay was by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert; the story was written by Garis and David Kirschner. It was produced by Kirschner and Steven Haft. The film focused on three witches who were brought back from the dead by a teenage boy. Here is the official synopsis as per Letterboxd,
