Barbie saw Greta Gerwig trying a big-budget studio flick for the first film. The fantasy comedy film was written by her and Noah Baumbach. It was the first live-action adaptation of Mattel's namesake fashion dolls. The film was released on July 21, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Barbie to get an animated sequel
Deadline has recently reported that another Barbie film is currently in development. It will be an animated film and serve as a sequel to Greta Gerwig's 2023 film. Mattel Studios is joining hands with Illumination Entertainment to work on the project. If the film materializes, it will be the first animated film on the doll to get a theatrical release.
Universal Pictures will be distributing the film. No information regarding its cast, storyline, or director has been revealed yet. Mattel has also been planning to make a film on their other titles, like Hot Wheels and Masters of the Universe.
Barbie (2023) was produced by Margot Robbie, David Heyman, Robbie Brenner, and Tom Ackerley. It focuses on the titular character along with Ken, who go through a major change after coming across the real world.

The film won an Oscar for Best Original Song (What Was I Made For?), and had received several nominations in different categories. These included Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
