Monica Lewinsky, the well-known American activist, is back in the spotlight with a six-part docuseries in which she opens up about the 1998 s*x scandal that nearly brought down a president. The 51-year-old Lewinsky is now a successful activist, author, and prominent podcast guest.
In a recent interview on the How to Fail podcast, Lewinsky discussed the emotional complexity of her relationship with former President Bill Clinton, calling her feelings a young woman’s love at the time.
"It was 22 to 24-year-old young woman’s love, The way we see love evolves with every relationship we have." She said on the podcast.
On the other hand, in her love life, Lewinsky has always opted to remain private when it comes to her affairs and relationships. In interviews over the years, she has stated that she does date, but she has never married.
"I do date. I'm not married yet. I don't know if that will happen or not, and I'm more okay with that than I used to be." She told People in a 2021 interview.
Monica Lewinsky expressed a similar feeling in a February 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, saying that though she had connections with “extraordinary men,” she hadn’t been in the right time for a lasting partnership. Lewinsky has also been vocal about her choice to keep her dating life off the grid.
"I kinda feel if anybody has earned a right to have their romantic life private, it's me... Those relationships are very precious to me." She said.
A look into Monica Lewinsky's controversial connection to former President Bill Clinton
During the recent podcast interview, Monica Lewinsky admitted to a more sobering reality about what had happened. She pointed out her naive nature at that time and Clinton's abuse of power.
"I think there was some limerence there and all sort of other things, but that's how I saw it then. I think it was also an abuse of power." She added.
Monica Lewinsky is known for having an affair with then-President Bill Clinton from 1995 to 1997. At the time, Lewinsky was a 22-year-old intern at the White House, and 49-year-old Clinton was in the midst of his presidency, married to Hillary Clinton, who went on to become Secretary of State.
Their relationship would make nationwide headlines once exposed, generating years of constant media and political scrutiny. According to Hollywood Life, when their relationship was exposed to the public, President Clinton denied the allegations, stating that he did not have any sort of s**ual relationship with Lewinsky.
But the controversy resulted in his impeachment in 1998 by the House of Representatives for perjury and obstruction of justice. He was subsequently acquitted by the Senate after a three-week trial and went on to serve out his term.
Though Monica Lewinsky was subjected to intense scrutiny in her early 20s, Lewinsky has gone to great lengths to change her public view (Hollywood Life). A longtime critic of cyberbullying and public shaming, she has been vocal about the effects of digital harassment.
