Is Orlando Bloom Irish? Actor says he’s embracing his roots as he signs up for citizenship 

Orlando Bloom recently shared that he has applied for an Irish passport.

The actor, who parted ways with Katy Perry in June this year after 9 years together, said he felt it was the right moment to embrace his family roots.

“I’m getting my Irish passport. [My grandfather] was actually from Northern Ireland,” Bloom shared during an interview on Virgin Radio.

Host Ryan Tubridy replied jokingly,

“And there’s a lot of people from the UK who, after a certain political move, found themselves looking for a granny down the back of the couch.”

Bloom laughed but admitted the paperwork had also been a factor.

“Part of it was actually just for work, like, when I was working in Prague for a while, [there was] a whole bunch of new paperwork.” he shared.

Still, Orlando Bloom made it clear that his roots mattered most.

“And also, I love the fact that I’ve got Irish heritage. That’s all it is.”

As for his professional life, most recently Bloom played the role of a retired boxer in the psychological thriller The Cut.

Speaking about his latest role, Orlando Bloom revealed that it took a serious toll on both his health and his family. The actor described the transformation as “taxing” and admitted that even Katy Perry was shaken by the finished product.

After the film’s Toronto International Film Festival premiere in 2024, Bloom told People Magazine that Perry’s first reaction was blunt. “She watched it and was like, ‘I need a stiff drink,’” he revealed. “She just was freaked out.”

“I was very hangry, the last three weeks in London, before we started filming, were just tuna and cucumber.” he shared.

He credited the film’s nutritionist for guiding him through the drastic plan.

“He had me on a strict regime to tear me down, so that we started the film at my lightest weight. And then I put on weight as we filmed.” explained Bloom.

Bloom said Perry "was really moved," adding that at one point during production, he thought,

“I literally thought I was gonna die.”

Orlando Bloom and Perry share a daughter, Daisy Dove, born in 2020. He is also father to son Flynn, from his previous marriage to Miranda Kerr.
